07 Mastiff clutch cable question

Good evening,
I was riding this evening and it appears my clutch cable broke or end broke. But is it normal for the bike to roll freely when it is actually in gear when this happens? I was able to roll the bike around in gear?

Sounds like your transmission main shaft may have broken

my clutch cable broke in Sturgis and no it wont roll freely. I had to shut mine off in gear
and start it in gear to get back to camp. if your cable broke and your in gear you are in gear and it will not roll freely.

Get with Curtis, BD had a run on defective transmission shafts. Off the top of my head and guys correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was around the 2006 or 2007 bikes. CaptAmerica am I correct on those years?

Thanks. Leave it to me to have the odds of the shaft breaking the same instant the cable breaks. It has to be million to one. Just rolling down the road around 50. Pulled in clutch to shift down for a red light. It lets go the same exact instant I had no connection between trans and engine. This really sucks. And I already know it will not be cheap.

Not sure. Any advice on how I would check that? I am an electrician by trade but I am handy but new to advanced motorcycle mechanics. It has the right side drive.

Take primary cover off. Look at your primary chain. Roll your bike farwards. Look to see if 1. Back tire is turning belt to output shaft. 2. Is clutch plates in exposes ex primary area turning. If not its your transmission shaft. Also make sure bike is in gear. If you have a bike lift use it just Jack up back tire and use primary inspection cover to take a look.

BWG is correct on the but. Check that also. Either way primary cover needs to come off to figure out what's wrong. Once primary cover is off you should determine problem in 5 minutes.

Yes the problem years are 06-07 but not all have the issue.
I m still on my stock trans at 55000 miles, half of that with a 140 horse non-EPA 124, and I run my bike pretty hard.

I had my tranny rebuilt by Bigdogtech01 (Barnesperformance.com) check him out for a rebuild also:up:

Found out today that it was in fact the transmission main shaft. Called Baker, basically they are not going to stand by the defect and replace. I appreciate the good advice. You guys know your stuff. Triola in Lacomb LA is tackling the project. Will keep everyone posted on final fix in case anyone is rolling through SE Louisiana you will know where to go. Thanks for the great advice.

Main transmission shaft and associated parts ordered from Baker. The defect inside the shaft was obvious. Cross section show half good metal the other half what appeared to be pock metal. Not consistent steel throughout. I'm a little surprised Baker is not standing by this with free replacement parts. At least the shaft. Very obvious flaw. Anyone with metallurgy knowledge could see the defect.

Got my mastiff back. 3860 dollars. Dang. Tranny had to be completely rebuilt due to a bad transmission main shaft. Thanks Baker. cheez.
