07 Mastiff: Clutch Adjust / Speedo

First of all, Hello all. I am the proud "new" owner of a 2007 mastiff! I have been riding for a little over 3 years. I just changed from a sport bike to this beauty.

I have a couple small issues that I need to address on the bike and wanted to check with you folks. Any help would be much appreciated.

First Issue:
The bike pulls, even with the clutch lever pulled all the way in, while in gear at a light. I have to either hold her back with my feet or apply light brake pressure to keep from inching forward. I assume it is just a simple adjustment of the clutch. Any pictures, advice, adjustment amount you can give?

Second Issue:
The speedo will work.......on occasion. Some rides it works, others it doesn't. The RPM, light for the cluster, works, but the speedo does not, nor does the mileage. It will stay on the mileage as I ride. It also will not switch between the total Odometer reading and the trip when this situation occurs. Any advice?

I highly recommend buying a service manual. Here is a link for adjusting your clutch. Check your clutch lever to see if there is proper play first. How are your wrenching skills?

As for the speedo mine never worked right. For your mileage issues it will do that if you do not wait for the speedo needle to sweep when you turn the key in the ignition to "ON" and before you push the start button. The computer (EHC) does a self check every time you turn the key on. If you start your scoot before the speedo needle sweeps the mileage wont register. My speedo needle always bounced while riding. I switched mine out for a Dakota Digital. You will find many have switched to a Dakota Digital which works fantastic.

Howdy Phil and welcome from south Mississippi. Before the intro police arrest you, it would be in your best interest to go to the "introduction" forum and formally introduce yourself. Tell us a little about you so we can properly welcome you to the site. Now, on to your post. First issue: Do you have a service manual? If not, get one if you plan on wrenching and I would strongly advise it. With the help of the forum, you should be able to do most all your own repairs/troubleshooting. If your bike is pulling, then it's probably just a matter of adjusting your clutch. First, slide the rubber boot off the clutch cable (about mid-way down the cable) and loosen the locking nut and then turn the cable adjusters in so that you have slack in your clutch handle. Now, follow your clutch cable down to where it goes into the right side of the bike to the clutch pushrod. Unscrew the cover and you'll see the clutch pushrod with a locknut on it. The end of the clutch pushrod has an allen head fitting. Using an allen wrench to hold the pushrod, loosen the lock nut. The pushrod is threaded. Using the allen wrench, screw the pushrod all the way in until it makes contact. Now, back off 1/4 turn and re-tighten the lock nut. Now, go back to the cable adjuster that was under the rubber boot and expand it until you take the slack out of your clutch handle. Now, use the locking nut to secure that adjustment and cover it back up with the boot.

Second issue: I would start by pulling the speedo sensor located on the top/rear of the tranny and clean it. Also, there is a plug under the dash/between the tanks where your speedo plugs in as well as another plug for your tach. Remove the dash, disonnect both plugs, fill with dielectric grease and plug them back in. Moisture is your enemy on these, so I would also recommend getting some shrink tubing large enough to go over the connectors and once you've placed dielectric grease in them and plug them back up, slide the shrink tube over the connectors and heat them to shrink them in place. This practice is recommended for all fittings, so while you're in there, you may want to do the same to your other plugs, i.e. compression release plugs. Good luck.

I had a loose ground on the inside of my speedometer that would only make contct occasionally, I took the speedometer apart re soldered the ground wire put a moisture pack in the back of it and out it all back together resealing the glass and back wire section. Works perfect now and no more steamed up glass after giving her a bath...

As for the speedo, I will take the investigation suggestions and see what it may be. That Dakota Digital looks real nice...........may be time for my first upgrade....

Smart choice on the DD. It's a great looking speedo, large bright display and when you get older like me, you don't need glasses to see how fast you are going.
