07 K9 Clutch slipping

I have an 07 K9 that has had an ongoing clutch slipping problem since new . After having the dealer try several times to fix the problem , I talked to Baker Drivetrain and they suggested upgrading the clutch pack to the 9 plate system . I had an independant shop install the 9 plate pack and the bike still slips in 4th and 5th gear ( the same problem from the begining ) . No less than 4 different mechanics have tried to adjust the clutch with no luck . After calling Baker again they can only suggest throwing more parts at the problem . I cannot afford to keep throwing money at this problem hoping that it might get fixed .
Any Ideas ?

I had the same problem. I added a thicker pressur plate and toqued the main shaft down to 150 ft pounds with locktite...no more slipping

Call Energy One...the actual maker of the plates for Baker @ 562-698-7809. Talk to the owner...KENT. I spoke with him when I ordered the 9 plate system just over a month ago. Very nice...and he wanted to know if I had any slipping, etc. before he sold me the easy pull in order to make sure he sold me the right parts. Hang in there, and let everyone know the eventual problem solver. (Possibly springs???)

or fix it once with a Bandit bruiser and be done with it.

Either your tolerances aren't correct, your spring pressure is not correct or its not being adjusted correctly - fairly straight forward imo.

Go with the first sentence; its been talked about for yrs try the search feature, you might stumble across the intro police while you're at it and everyone wins.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

First off make sure that your not running a synthetic oil in the primary, that can cause slippage. I had this issue when I bought my scoot too. The shop kept adjusting the clutch and cable. They had it so out of whack the bike would start to creep at stop lights even with the clutch lever all the way in. One day I just got fustrated with it and broke into my primary and took the clutch pack out and low and behold my clutch nut was loose. I cleaned the threads on the shaft and the nut, added lots of red loc-tite and torqued that nut down good. I let it set a few hours before putting everything back together... Good luck at getting it fixed...:2thumbs:

I will offer this.

If the baker king kong clutch will fit, that might be a good option.

It is holding my 124 without slipping with the lightest springs provided.

ya, but didn't you say you were also only running a 150 on the rear? that pencil neck is definitely going to break loose before the clutch does?

Yep and I also said I was using the lightest springs.

Info here on springs, page 9:
http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/clutches/KKK-instructions.pdf

I started with the red springs and when I did some other work, I wondered if the red yellow combo would hold and lighten the lever pressure, so I called baker for advice. They said to run the lightest (yellow) springs and I would be fine. I asked if they were sure. They said they were sure. I asked what data they had to back this up. They were like I can't really name names, but a famous engine builder known for making big power uses the yellow springs and it holds on his stuff. It will hold on the de-tuned 124 you have.

Now I can't guaranty that it will hold with the yellow springs, but you have lots of options by swapping the included springs out if need be.

BTW. The famous builder has a killer clown logo.......maybe he will chime in on it to verify as this was from Baker staff not him.

kinda thought it might be KJ.

so he called you 124 weak???

Compared to a KJ, yes.......it is what it is......a cookie cutter engine from S&S built on my cases.

Now if I sent it to somebody to liven it up......

Don't get me wrong it will do for mundane commuting duties, but it is not, nor will ever be the top power dog.

splitlog, where did you get the bigger pressure plate, and does it work on the 9 plate system from baker?

The 9 disc plates are used in the soft pull clutch set up.They will barley hold stock engine. In 2007 you should have the 12 plate set up.I changed to the soft pull set up to ease on the pull, but in 4th,5th,6th,3800 RPM just starting to build good power then she slips.I put the original 12 plate set up back in. You might look into the Bandit clutch.
