07 K-9 speedometer not working

I'm new to the forum and just purchased an 07 K-9 with the speedometer not working. All other housing lights and tach are working correctly. I know it's a common problem and should replace it with a dakota digital one. However, my question is... is it really the speedo that is broke or is it the transmission sensor? Has anyone had this issue?

The original autometer speedometers are junk. They start working intermintenly and finally give up. Replace it.

Check your Speed Sensor first as it is quick and relatively easy

First, test that the red wire reading is 12
volts. Test the black wire for continuity.
Using the proper equipment, raise the rear
tire, and check voltage at the green signal
wire while spinning the tire. The reading
should be between 0 and 6 volts. If no
voltage registers, replace the speed sensor.

If its good then open up your speedo, disconnect the JST connector to the speedo and check for power to the speedo.
If you have power then check for shorts to the frame, power off at the ignition switch.

If all the checks are good then you have a bad speedo.

Welcome! This site is awesome, has become my first stop when troubleshooting. Definitely test as described above. I had the same issue with my '06 K-9. Mine turned out to be a broken pin in one of the JST connectors under the fuel tank, where the tach/speedo harness (170-000059-00) connects to the main harness. I found my problem by plugging the speedo directly into the main harness, and it worked perfectly.

The wires inside the speedo break at the soldier points, if the speedo does not work you can take apart and fix. There are several threads on this site that could help you. I fixed mine several years ago and still working fine.
