06 Mastiff rear gas mount

Have a question on the mount. The rear tank lifts up. I can see that the mount is in the bottom of the tank fine. The problem is that the bolt lifts out of the top tube. My guess is that the nut worked its way off over the years. So the question is if I take the tank off will I be able to thread the bolt/mount back on the nut? I assume its loose in the top tube. Maybe the nut was welded in the hole of the top tube at manufacture. Even if I can get the nut with a magnet I'm nit sure I can get it threaded back on since the top tube is enclosed except for the hole where the bolt goes in.
Any thoughts?
It's not going anywhere with the front mounts holding but it does bounce when going over a bump.

Dakota. Does not seem to be a topic that has had this issue. Oh well I'll just take the tank off and see what I find.

I have an 06 mastiff also and recently had the tank off. What I did was use a washer with the separated rubber piece and it seems to work fine it takes some adjusting to get it in and seated good luck Stan

I am surprised no one has offered any suggestions. I wish I could help but have never had my tank off. Do you have a service Manual? If not I can scan the picture of the tank and attachments and send it to you, it may help. Some one should be able to send you a link to the manual. I believe I may be able to but have to do some digging. I have to run now. I will check back.

SES: Thanks for the reply. Not exactly understanding how you secured your tank. My rubber piece is on the bolt fine, and secured in the bottom of the tank (ie: not shifted) my issue is the nit that will secure the bolt. I can hear it rattling around. Its in the top tube. I just don't know how to thread it back since the top tube only has the hole where bolt went in. I think it must have been manufactured with nut welded to top tube hole.

Dakota: Thanks and yes I do have a manual. Easy to get tank off. I just have not done it. It's not going anywhere so I just get out and ride. I do want to address this though soon.

it sounds like my problem was different than yours. there was a nut welded onto the frame that held the bolt that had the rubber top bushing on my bike, my rubber bushing had separated . it sounds like your problem is worse than mine. good luck and if i can be of any help just give me a shout.

If what your saying is the bolt is pulling out of the frame then you will need to remove your tank and install a thread repair insert. Not a big deal just use a drill bit stop so you do not accidentally damage the wires running through the backbone tube.

I've replaced my tank mount and it threads into the backbone. Sounds like yours is stripped out.

I would also start looking at the vibration that caused it to strip out. Front mounts may be shot.
