06 K9 Tank Needed

Help! I purchased a bike that has been sitting for 2 years and mechanic tells me gas tank is trashed. Says the liner inside has floated loose and no way to clean it out. I checked with a radiator shop and they can’t get inside the tank to do it. Any used K-9 tanks out there for sale or any advice on who can clean this one out?

I haven’t noticed any prices for K9 tanks lately, but when you do determine the cost of replacement, I bet you change your tune about re-doing your old one. There are sone threads on this forum about cleaning out old separated liners—it can be done, but will usually require repainting of the tank.
Some of the guys who have been through it will give you some direction on how to proceed.

I have tried to contact them with no luck by leaving voicemail and sending e-mails. I shipped it out today to Fuel Tank Services in Fort Lauderdale. We shall see. Thanks for the reply

Good luck on finding any. I can put a new liner in yours if your interested. I've done them on burnt bikes to the ones that are just coming loose.

It can be done and if you get lucky you may not have to repaint it but I would budget for a repaint. Good luck.

I will keep everyone updated on how it turns out. I don’t expect them to receive it until Thursday, they promise a 12 day turn around and a few days to get it shipped back to me. It’s going to be painful to have my fingers crossed for 20 days

I wanted to update everyone regarding my tank. George returned the tank and did an outstanding job of cleaning out the old lining and coating the inside of the tank and all without putting a single scratch on my custom paint. Since it took longer than expected to get it back, George even paid for 2 day shipping UPS. I couldn’t be happier.

$675 plus I had to pay shipping. Still a lot cheaper than a new tank and then trying to custom paint it to match the rest of the bike.

Glad that worked out for you. It sounds like a lot of money but I can tell you from personal experience it is a time consuming process. You are lucky you're bike only has one tank. Mine has two. Twice the fun.
