06 K9 Speedometer

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well...

I just had a few questions that are a little bit over my head. I have an 06 K9 and when I parked it this winter it just rolled over 18,000 miles, and I have a couple of questions.

The speedometer back light, "the back lit light" went out a few months ago and I was wondering if I have to buy a whole new speedometer to fix that or could I possibly tear it apart and replace it?

My other question is..

A few times this past season I may or may not of gone well over the speed limit and when I slowed back down the speedometer was not reading correctly. It may of only be a couple miles and hour off or it could of been almost 15 to 20 MPH off. What would cause that?

And lastly my tp rocker boxes are leaking and I was wondering where would be the best place to order those gaskets? And how hard would that be to do myself? I've rebuilt the forks myself and replaced the clutch on my bike. "clutch nut came loose". But that was just replacing parts.

I appreciate your time everyone

Given how prone the BDM speedo's are to condensation, my vote would be replace it with a Dakota Digital. One of the best upgrades I've done.

Can't say about rocker boxes having never done them, but there are plenty of people on here who will know.

To answer your question about the speedo they have been known to have issues with condensation in the speedo , it may also me a short / loose connection . Rocker boxes are not hard to do, ensure the surface is clean and pay close attention to the torque and sequence. Not sure about tp but I have an s&s tech manual.

The speedometer can be taken apart and put back together. The trickiest part is the bezel.
Once apart you can replace the light. If your trip button happens to be worn out we have those in stock.
If you don't mind the digital face the Dakota Digital, as Mike referenced, is a good replacement for the cheap BD Speedo. You can find them on EBay for cheapest in most cases.
If you prefer the analog face we have those in stock.
Do a calibration on the speedometer. The process is in the Service Manual. If you don't have one email us, wsworx@gmail.com, and we can send you a pdf version. You may also want to check your speed sensor, process is in the manual.
The TP Rocker Box gasket kit is available at the link below:

Not an overly complicated process but it is important that you have the right tools and no "seat of the pants torquing of fastners".
