Pretty sure he’s saying take the hand control apart and pull the plug from the finger board. Then reconnect the green wire to the starter and connect the battery again…So supposedly it has a brand new starter, I also have one sitting in the garage I can test out. So I’m not thinking it has anything to do with the starter. But I don’t understand what ur telling me Shannon
GotchaPretty sure he’s saying take the hand control apart and pull the plug from the finger board. Then reconnect the green wire to the starter and connect the battery again…
You need to take the solenoid apart and clean the contancts first. You can buy a rebuild kit for the solenoid also. Start there before replacing the starter itself. At least take it apart to see exactly what is taking place….Alrighty, so disconnected the excite wire from the starter, still does it, so it’s a bad starter, also disconnected the hand controls prior to that. So it’s a bad starter
have a starter guy, I’ll give it to him and have him go through it, I have one sitting here so I’ll just replace it and go from there, but pretty certain that’s my issueYou need to take the solenoid apart and clean the contancts first. So thank you, didn’t try this, it’s the starter solenoidPull the green wire off the solenoid and see if it still does it. If it doesn't, pull the wires off the contact board for the start button.
So here’s the deal, he took it in for service and they told him he needed a new starter and new compression releases, he said they did that and almost a day later it started doing this, he just gave up on it and it’s been sitting outside for almost 2 years now. Really sucks, this bike used to be like mine, show quality. I was always jealous cuz he had the chrome wheels, now I’m glad I have polished aluminum because his are pitted and peeling as well as all the other chrome. Point being, starter is new and I’m guessing it was bad right off the batI agree sounds like the contacts are just stuck. It they are bunt up or you cant clean them up. Then it's just a new Solenoid not the starter.
Jeez. You might as well expect other issues to arise.. these bikes are not meant to sit for that duration. They just aren’t. So sorry to hear about the current state of your friends bike. Sad as the story is I would sure like to see it. Maybe the regular crew here (and you know who you are) can help in some way with getting it fixed back up…So here’s the deal, he took it in for service and they told him he needed a new starter and new compression releases, he said they did that and almost a day later it started doing this, he just gave up on it and it’s been sitting outside for almost 2 years now. Nice bunch of bikes. Funny how people are so different. That bike would be on my lift and wouldn’t leave the middle of my garage until it was running & ready to ride. The chrome can be redone as can be afforded obviously but getting it running and road ready is another story… lots of things involved in that. Tires/fluids/gasoline/filters,ect. 2years is a long time to be sitting idle… makes my very sad.View attachment 135303
so she is tucked back against the wall til I get her running again
