06 K9 Battery Cover Issue

Just noticed my plastic battery/electrical cover under seat has cracks at the tabs on the 2 rear bolt holes. The 2 front ones are okay for now, but I'm sure they'll weaken quicker now. Someone recommended a plastic welder/sauterer to fix it. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, any recommendations?

this was addressed back in the early part of '08 with a recall and replacement of the panels which involved a different mounting system. if you bought the bike used recently, apparently the previous owner didn't have the recall performed. good luck finding a new set of side covers. maybe bdm performance parts will have them available for sale when they get fully up and running.

just noticed your introduction and the fact that you just bought the bike. the new mounting method involved rubber grommets and large push-pins that relieved pressure on the side covers.

Dang. Thanks for the info. Have you ever heard of a plastic sauterer and would that temporarily fix it? If not, I may just drill some tiny holes in each side of cracked pieces and make a small brace with tiny screws to get by. What ya think?

some were repairing the cracks before the tabs broke off completely by fiberglassing on the inside of the cover. at this point, it's what ever will work until you are able to replace.

Mine cracked just like yours, found out that Tampa Bay Big Dog claimed they had done the fix to get the factory money, but didn't tell me, no fix
so I glued mine with JB weld been holding for over a year. I bought the push in pins and gromets from local shop.

you might want to check with BDM, I bought a set from them for my Mastiff a couple of months ago

FYI, I used JB Weld. When I match the paint, I'll paint it. In the mean time, I'll just look at it when I take the seat off.

My neighbour is a bodyman and took a heater box from a Honda car which is the same thicknes as the covers. He molded them and plastic welded them in. I also got the new pins and a set of new painted covers from Bigdog on warranty. I guess your only choice right now is to either fix them or find a set on ebay.
