06 117 motor

Original specs stock S&S

111 .585 cam
117 .600 cam
124 .640 cam

Also the compression ratios are higher.
05 and 06 Ironhorse I believe came with the factory compression ratio. As many of you know Big Dog had the engines built with a lesser compresion of 9.6-1

I think the comp ratios are as follows but this is only going by my tired old melon head

111 9.7-1
117 10.2-1
124 Something like 10.6 0r 10.8 to 1

But with all the power do you have the bucks to keep a spare transmission around?

Just to add.
On the 2008 s&s recommended the 585 if you are keeping the stock springs and stock compression.
If you are willing to change to red stripe springs and cut to bring the compression back up then they reccomeneded the 600.

Just trying to add some data. :)

how many bolts in your rocker boxes?? 6 in each is S&S topend...4 in each box is TP ...also check your carb size...on the side it will say E series or G series... the e will have restrictors from BD...the G is the bigger carb...you might also get the serial number off your engine and call S&S and see what your specs are on motor....

Can someone pinpoint where the E or G is at on the carb. I've looked as best I can and don't see it. Does the air cleaner filter need to come off to see it?

you should be able to see it on the top of the carb right behind the mounting plate without taking anything off.

Here is my .02.
Going all out can get expensive and even it done right can lead to reliability problems.
I do however see it as a good idea to de-EPA it.
By putting the specs back to where they were designed to be can add power without sacrificing reliability.
Agree 100%. Bump the compression, upgrade the cam, new springs, and larger intake/exhaust valves, and you will have the 117 as S&S intended.
Do the above and you will notice significant change in performance.

My K-9 is ready for a tune as well. When you say de-epa it or set it back to the original specs (tuning wise) what does that entail. Apparently BDM de-tuned it to meet emissions, so what needs to be done to get it back to the original S&S 117 specs?

I'm learning as I go, so please be patient.

I wish I had more money.
Shave the heads, put a 600 cam in, and tune it. You'll be happy. You may or may not have the springs you need. Tune is crucial.
