05 Ridgeback stalling?????

Yesterday I rode over 150 miles and everytime I would smack it in 1st gear the bike would just turn off on me. But if I rolled the throttle real easy in 1st and then hit second and then smacked it it was fine, it was only in first gear that it would stall on me. Does it sound like a carb problem? I'm running the Super G. Thx for any insight.

Brother this sounds like "OE" here!..."Operator Error" :D

I don't know anyone that "Smacks" their bike into 1st gear! :nono:

I'm sorry, but it "not" one of those things "that if it doesn't fit...Force It"! :nono:

Just a suggestion here, a smoother operation of the bike my serve for a better diagnosis of the true problem here. :yesnod:

But I doubt it's the carb, it would show up problems in any gear! :skep:

Just my thoughts here. Good Luck! :2thumbs:

When you say "smack the bike into 1st gear"

Do you mean smacking the gear shifter into first or cracking the throttle wide open in first gear?

Ok, let me clear myself here. When I'm taking off from a start and "Roll the throttle" in first gear, it stalls on me. No operator error here. I ride hard and that's that. I'd be the first to run anybody and that's just me. But when I take off evrytime in first gear it just stalls.

Yes by rolling the throttle very very very easy in first gear which I know that something is not working properly. I never had to do this before so i know something is not right. This all just started doing this yesterday.

Did it just start doing this all of a sudden?

Was this your first ride of the season, or the first time you've ridden the bike since your engine mods?

If you take off from a light as if surrounded by police cars (nice and easy), does the bike still stall?

Have you put her on the dyno since your engine mods?

Perhaps you need to make a few adjustments to either your carb or your riding style.

Yeah, I know, no answers from me, only more questions but it helps to know as much as possible before dishing out advice.

SORRY: We must have been posting at the same time.

Yep, you've got a carb problem! Most likely trash or gum in carb. jets or orifices.

1) Check for good flow coming from the tank. If good flow move to next. If not good flow, clean the fuel screen in the shut off valve.
2) Remove bowl from carb and clean thoroughly with carb cleaner. Use compressed air to blow out any orifices or jets. When re-installing check float level for proper adjustment.

Then test out and let us know results.

No I've been riding all summer and all the engine mods have been done 2 years ago but it hasn't been dyno tuned in a long long time! I was thinking about dropping it off tomorrrow and getting it dyno tuned and amybe it will clear up this problem. The bike will not stall if I'm taking off real real real slow! That's why I think it's an adjustment to the carb.

Come to think of it I did clean and re-oiled my K&N before I went riding and maybe that was the problem and it got gunked up in the carb from excess oil.

The only adjustment that can affect throttle response is the accelerator pump adjustment. But that doesn't change all by itself, something has stopped up the fuel delivery circuit.

Well if it just started doing this, I doubt (although still possible) that your carb just got out of adjustment but a dyno will ease your mind for sure on if you have your adjustments correct.

Try dropping the bowl and see if there is any junk like Dead recommended.

Also, check the petcock for solid flow and then make sure your fuel line hasn't collapsed or that you have some other sort of fuel demand restriction.

and just for kicks, what is your accel pump set to????

What you are describing could be a demand for fuel that your accel pump should be providing....

I think that Chopper117 has "SELF DIOGNOSED" his own problem! TOO MUCH OIL!

That could also be it! NO AIR! Running really rich can cause the same effect.

Check it out!

I don't know man, how much oil we talking? I use a K&N myself and have oiled it and installed and gone on rides and have never had an issue?

It seems to me that it would require a really large amount of over-oiling to have it affect performance. But hell, i've been wrong before, I just can't remember what about right now...

No worries,
did you oil the shit out of the filter? I usually let it set for a few minutes before I re-install the filter but have never had that much oil oozing out onto the work bench?????

no problem. Hope it all comes clean and works out!

Good Luck :2thumbs:

and LDO...you're right it is scary! ...:2thumbs:

Lets just say I drenched it because I had to use a towel to wipe off all the excess. That has to be it because it did not do this the day before I did the K&N. I'm a knucklehead!
