05 RIDGEBACK PETCOCK PROBLEM?????

A couple of days ago my bike was stalling in first gear when I rolled on the throttle. All the other gears were fine. I called the my Big Dog dealer and they said it could be my Petcock valve and I probaly should get the 5/16 Hi-Flow Petcock valve which is $108. Now my question is, did anyone ever come across this problem and replace there Petcock valve and solved the problem? Could my valve just be clogged? Open suggestions are welcomed!! Thx.:bang::bang:

Recommend pulling the petcock and cleaning it out.

Is this happening in both (open/Reserve) positions?

Happening at all fuel levels?

I thought we all agreed that it was due to over oiling the K&N filter????

It wasn't that LDO. I re-cleaned the filter and sprayed lightly and let it sit overnight in front of a fan and re-installed it and it still does it. Now I don't know if this caused the problem or not but I'm trying to narrow it down.

No worries,
what kind of petcock do you have? Mine is the original that came on the bike in 03 and still runs good.

I thought all our dogs had 5/16 fuel line?

I wish I had more money.
I thought that it just worked off of idle. If he were in another gear he may be above that spot. But I do see where you are coming from.

"Sock"! :2thumbs:

:nono: Sorry Mikie, Nope! Which gear wouldn't matter! It would stumble in every gear if it was the acc. pump.

Ok then maybe it is and they screwed up. They just want to sell a $108 Petcock.
That's about the price of a Pingle (petcock)!

If you suspect restricted flow from the petcock, I would ensure the screen is clean and then some clear tubing and hook it up to the petcock and see what your flow looks like.

You may have some gunk clogging the jets. sure it would prolly do it in all gears but it's worth a shot.

Just remove check for blockage and clean! New one wasn't needed before this was it?:2thumbs:

Acc. pump works due to the "ramp" speed of acceleration of the throttle, until the inter. jets kick in. Just think of it as a "Squirter", that's what a lot of people call them! But the "squirter" is actually the "venturi jet" within the carb. to get technical. (Round cylinder looking thingy when you look down the carbs. throat that squirts out gas when you pump the gas!)

Thx LDO I'll pull it off tonight and clean it. I wonder if the excess oil from the filter had anything to do with this??

accelerator pump is used for when you snap open the throttle and the vacuum will not draw the fuel through quick enough to keep up with the sudden inrush of air. Doesn't matter what gear you are in or necessarily at what rpm :2thumbs:
