I've been getting a lot of pm's on my bike so will tell everyone what is going on with it.

I bought my 05 Chopper in Oct of 04. It's #29 or one of the very first 05's to come off the assembly line. I traded my 03 Mastiff for it after I put over 24,000 miles on it in 16 months. The 05 was absolutely fantastic with the new RSD, so much better to me than the LSD.

I was putting 100 miles a day on it commuting back and forth to work while stationed in San Diego. Lane sharing all the way. I would arrive to work soaked in sweat from splitting lanes keeping an eye on the traffic trying to avoid someone from switching lanes in front of me. I survived three years of this!

Anyway, coming home from Sturgis this year I detoured to go help Hoat out who had broke down in Powell, WY after crossing some RR tracks on a bridge crossing on the Big Horn River (near where Custer got his ass shot off!). His bike shorted out and killed all the electronics on this crossing! The BD guys in Sturgis gave me a new EHC and VR for him. He warned me about this crossing but I didn't catch it in time and with a full load on the bike and Glenda on the back we hit the RR tracks so hard I thought the rear end broke off. I swear the RR tracks were 6" deep. We had to pull over and check to see if I lost anything. Struts still looked good so we went on our way.

As I always do before and after a trip I strip the bike down. Well I noticed that I had a fracture on the frame plate that your battery and oil bag is attached to. Not a structual part of the frame but still a problem. So I shoot off some pics to BDM asking them if I should just take it down to Midas Muffler and have them weld it back up. Next thing you know they are calling me and telling me they want to look at it. So last week a guy showed up here from Arizona and picked up my bike. He was contracted to haul it back to Arizona where it would be transfered to the Big Dog truck.

As of today I don't know if it's made it back to the factory yet or not. They told me when it arrives they will evaluate it and see if they have to strip it down to weld it up. This means I may get a new powder coated frame. Good timing as the races and bearing in the neck really need changing. The swing arm bearing are probably in need of changing also. The bike has over 56,000 miles on it now.

The driver was funny and said he knew it was a high mileage bike and that BDM would be putting it in their museum!!

I've concluded that the swingarm hit the rubber dampeners so hard it cracked this plate.

Just a small load!!

Good thing you spotted it before it got worse. Glad it wasn't anything major. You do ride alot of miles.
I got hit on my HD bent the frame under the seat all the way to the back wheel both sides. They was able to straighten it so you would never know the difference.

Good catch! Too bad you'll have to sit on the pourch for a while but all the miles you log a break maybe a good thing.

Ray, You think you were over the load limits?
No, I don't think so. The load limit is something like a 1000 lbs and besides having my wife on the back (about 140 lbs) the rest was just clothes (Glenda didn't take much!) in the pack. I shipped most of my camping gear to and from Sturgis using a shipping service.

Will let you all know what they do when it's get there and is evaluated.

Thanks,
Ray

not enough time 4 riding
Shame they did not give you a loaner while they are deciding what to do with yours, but I guess they didn't want to get a bike back with 10,000 miles on it

The withdrawal must be bad already. Guess you are really cleaning up the honey-do list. Hope they get you back on the road quick

I thought the load limits were a lot less than that...contact the city you were in and file a claim or the railroad...they are set up for this sort of problem, maybe it will get them to fix it before someone gets hurt......

City????? Ha ha ha There isn't 10 people for a 100 miles in this area!!! :whoop:

I will try to find out who owns the RR and file a complaint though!

Thanks,

Nice to hear BDM is helping you out. I've found them to go well beyond what most manufacturers would do after warranty.

Ray, What do you hear on your bike? And I could have guessed that Glenda packed light (a compliment on her clothes - or lack thereof!!!).

I'm stuck out here in CA working with cows :bang: so my K-9 project bike is on hold.

Too bad Ray, at least BDM is doing right by it.

Now everyone else has a chance to catch up on mileage. Mine is still sitting in the garage...
I'm still making sand castles until January
