05 Chopper Fork Brace

Many Big Dogs have had problems with poorly chromed fork braces. Peeling is not uncommon. My ride is a gorgeous work of art until you look at the ugly brace.
I looked closely and didn't see the copper plating which is done first. I started peeling and sanding and filing and then polishing. Fortunately there was very little copper because that took the most time. I could have bought one on eBay for $115. but I like polished aluminum best. She turned out pretty good. I may do a little more. I've got a lot of riding planned for this Saturday. I will install it tomorrow and after Saturday I may do some more to it.

Yea I ran into the same thing with the front brake caliper bracket, that bolts to the fork tube. I took a scotch pad on my die grinder, and stripped the rest of the chrome off, and polished it out. Looks awesome.

Unfortunately many platers don't take the time to have the aluminum zincated, I think that's what its called, and they don't do a nickel plate first then the copper then the chrome. Hence the shit chrome that we have seen so much of on the BDs.
