05 Chopper Electrical help-Rear lights

Hi all.... I changed my rear stock lights to an aftermarket set of LED lights and now have a small problem. The lights work fine except when I release the brake they go totally out for approx 2-3 seconds and then the parks come back on. There is no hesitation when I apply the brakes its only when I release the brakes. I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference in the resistance between the stock lamls and the aftermarket set, and that the computer has to reset itself. I'm not sure how to go about correcting the problem . I've read some where that a risistor might be needed but have no idea where to install one or how to tell what value resistor would be needed. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.....thanks :bang:

i agree with you on this. you altered the voltage on the ehc and that thing don't like that. i wanted to change my lights too but it's not worth the bullshit that i'll get from the ehc

I changed all the lights front and rear. Everything is working ok except for this one problem. they only go out for a 2 sec period so I'm still riding it like it is. other than that problem everything else went fine. I had more problems changing my bars and foot pegs than the lights......lol

Give me some details on the lights you installed, do you notice your tag light or speedometer having any issues when you release the brake? If you replaced your LED lights with LED lights I would be surprised if there is much more or less current draw from the EHC. May be a feedback issue. Get me details on the lights and we can go from there.

Thanks Mike...any help will be great. Not sure what kind of info you are asking for but I'll take a stab at it. The orig. lights had 36 led's where as th new ones only have 25 leds per lite. the new ones are a cheap set in the shape of maltize crosses. Both lites used just 2 leads so I bought an extra set of BD wires that run from under the seat to the rear turns and used the exsiting wires to hook up the new lights and kept the new wires in case I had to go back to the orig. lamps. The maltize cross leds were advertized for a replacement for a harley. I have never noticed any issues with the tag light or speedometer at all. Both seem to be normal and don't flicker or go out with the release of the brake. Not sure if any of that helped, and if you need some other info let me know. ..........Gary
ps: I'm not sure if I worded it right in the first post. The brake lights seem to be working fine. Its when I release either brake that i lose the rear running lights on both rear lamps. It last approx. 2 1/2 sec. then the running lights return. I changes the front turns to a set just like the back ones and they work just fine.

Can you give me a link or some other way to look at the lights you installed? If you have any installation instructions post them or send them to me in an email.

I changed my rears also to some mini bullets - but I dumped by ECH and am using a standard Thunderhart... most of the time you need to get a load equalizer for led's when you convert from regular, but because you already had l.e.d. makes me think output from ECH may be differnet on BDM... I would try load equalizer. Can't hurt and cheap.
