I have a 04 ridgeback that needs a starter. I called bigdog and they said it takes a 1.4kw starter. They didn't know what brand they used!!! My service manual mentions a spyke 1.8kw and a thunderheart 1.5kw starter. I want to upgrade to a better starter but don't know what to get. I was thinking of a spyke 1.8. The problem is I don't know what is best for a 107cu in s&s motor. I need help with what to use, what model and part number in order to place an order with JP motorcycle. They charge a 25% restocking fee if I order the wrong one please advise me fellow bikers!!!!

My '03 Chopper equipped with a 107" S&S uses a 1.4kw harley denso starter and a 275 CCA battery.

From what I've read upgrading to a bigger starter, say 1.8kw, would mean you would also need a battery upgrade of at least 300 CCA.

If your engine had no problem starting with it's original starter, I'd say a 1.5kw starter would be enough and you wouldn't need to change the battery, also.
