04 Ridgeback - No Power to Coil

Working on an 04 Ridgeback. Bike belongs to a friend-of-a-friend. He had issues starting the back, and the starter got to where it would spin internally. I replaced the starter with a 2.0 KW and it cranks fine now. Battery upgraded as well.

However, the bike won't start as it has no power to the coil. If I run a jump wire from the battery to the coil it starts and runs fine.

Is there any security on this bike that would shut off the coil power? Can it be reset?
Is there any diagnostics that can be run on the ignition module? No lights stay on at the module (2 rows of yellow/red lights). The Red light on the control unit(? aluminum block about the size of a credit card) doesn't come on unless the battery to coil jumper is made.

Thanks for any insight.

This is a good place to get help so Welcome and let us know.....
When you turn the key on what light do you get on the EHC under the seat? When you hit stop run what lights on EHC?

The EHC is the black box under the seat.

On the EHC there are two rows of lights that momentarily flash on in sequence when you turn the bike on, but then all are off. No lights come on when you turn it off.
All components, except for ignition module/coil, work. i.e., turn signals, brake lights, dash lights, etc.

Sounds like the ignition is fried. I had the same problem, replaced it with a Dyna 2000i. I can't remember, but I think I also had a red light on the ignition.

Problem turns out to be a bad EHC. I traced the power source back to the pin where it should be coming to feed the ignition and no power. Sent the EHC to Full House Cycles and they confirmed that the EHC was bad for ignition and other functions. They are getting a new EHC with an adaptor harness from Big Dog for a little over $600.00 with tax and shipping.

Thanks for your help, hopefully this gets it.

Sorry:bang: When the site was down I was going to get back to this thread but forgot to do a search. I know EHCs are a pain in the tail and a lot of guys ripped their EHCs off these 04s but I still have mine but mine is a designed on and works like a champ so knock on wood. I sold two to a guy on here for the half price and I still have two. I went through a lot of them before I got this great one. If you already ordered the redigned one great if you didnt PM me
:2thumbs:

EHC FREE!!!!
Yep - I got the two from Dakotabos. Only need one and will be replacing that. Check the site and you will see a rewire around the EHC that will cost about the same (actually a little less) than replacing the EHC.

Hey Mike - are you going to Sturgis?

If you are talking to me (Means you know my real name) YES :2thumbs:
If Linkin Park is in Concert then Tanya will go if not SOLO

PS Did you get that pup running yet?

EHC FREE!!!!
Yep - its running, but its too cold outside to go riding. I replaced the ignition and that seemed to fix the last problem. I have a Wire-Plus module, but have not installed it yet (too friggin' cold even in the garage!).

Look forward to seeing you at Sturgis and putting a face with a name.

:2thumbs: I am riding to work everyday now 25 degrees to work but 65 on the way home. Tanya knows when I "Leave work" so if it takes me more than a half a hour she knows I took the long way home. 12 mile drive to work and today it took 57 miles to get home today:roll:

Oh I know how lucky I am. My USAF shop is having Commanders call at Hooters tomorrow (Planning Stage). My co worker and I will ride the bikes and the Boss will take his truck.
My Mom wants me to come home to South Dakota for Christmas but I keep telling her I like Christmas in July up there. BRRRRRRRRRR
