What is the device in the battery compartment, about 1/2" square and a couple inches long, wires to each battery terminal, a wire to the starter solenoid, 2 other connectors going to the front of the bike? Just replaced a dead battery, and when connecting this device, the turn signals start flashing. I assume this a signal to tell me I'm doing something stupid.

:lol::lol::lol:

I'm guessing it this.

Horn Relay Oooops! DUH!!!! :loony: try a Starter Relay :D Thanks Ray!:2thumbs: :D

or

The EHC (Electronic Harness Controller)

Check to make sure that your hand control switch wasn't accidentally turned on.

If not, I'd first start with load testing the battery. Even new batteries can sometimes be bad.

Disconnect ground cable first when disconnecting battery and connect ground cable last when reconnecting battery so not to electrically damage EHC. :2thumbs:

Sounds like you are describing the "starter relay" to me.

Welcome to the site.

That's the puppy! Let me check those status LEDs and see if I can figure out whats happening. Thanks guys.

If you still want to help me after my intro, here goes. The EHC doesn't have any LEDs lit on it, and it doesn't look like the one in the diagram you showed me. But when you turn the key on, all the turn signals and headlight flash like a cop car. And for grins, I hit the starter button, and it fires up!

Mike,
Have your battery load tested. If Ok, recharge, if bad, replace.
These EHC do some weird stuff when the batteries start going south.
Then let us know if it persist acting :loony:

Think I need a EHC

Tried a new battery, checked all the connections. No faults indicated by the LEDs on the EHC. Bike starts and runs, but it almost looks like the turn signals are hooked to the spark plug wires. They strobe erratically, and the faster the RPM, the faster they flash!!!???

You are going to need to look at all the wiring between the tanks and poss' the handle bar harnesses... sounds like you have some pinched or chafed wires...

Mike,
Let's try this again.
Please feel free to correct me here if I'm wrong.

So I take it that your battery tested bad, so you replaced it, correct?

We're trying to determine which EHC you have on your bike.

I'm taking from what you're saying that your EHC has LEDs on it, correct?

When you turn on the key do you have any LEDs "on", if so which ones? (Just make a sketch, we have drawings that we can give you to help us determine it properly.)

Does your EHC have one wiring harness connector on it or two?

Have you disconnected your battery and removed your EHC wiring harness connector to check that connection?

(NOTE: That wiring harness connector should be clean and fill the holes for the pins with Dielectric Grease.)

dead
