04 Chopper loses all power

I went for a short ride last nite and all of a sudden the bike dies and I have no power at all. I checked the battery and it is fine but I do not get anything at all when I turn the key on. Luckily for me I broke down about 3 blocks from my buddies house. I havent gotten a chance to look at it today but I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
Tim

Something that you can try is checking the battery voltage went you turn the key on, see how much it drops.

Don't trust battery voltage to tell you if it's good or not. Load test it!

Not sure if the 04 had the circuit breaker or not, but if so, check it and see if it tripped for some unbeknowst reason. If so, try to figure out why in case there is a bigger underlying problem and not just a sudden surge or something.

Keep us up to date on what you find.

Just a thought....also check your ignition switch as some have had problems with intermittent contact causing shutdowns.

Yes it has the circuit breaker, but how do i know if it has tripped it.
Push the little button on it. Easy. I would guess (from behind a keyboard with limited information) that it's either your battery or key switch.
How many keys you have on your key ring?

Only the key for the bike is on the ring. I found the little button for the circuit breaker and pushed it in but still nothing. Im stumped.

Have the battery load tested. Check all your cables too.

would a bike just suddenly die going down the road because of a weak battery? Doesn't most of the power come from the charging system when the bike is running?

Should run. I left my key on last week and drained my battery for about a hour and a half. Pushed started and rode on home.

ignitions need a certain amount of volts to fire. BD's are about 12.8 my dynatek is lower like 12.1 no matter how good your charging if your battery is done then so are you.

From personal experience, yes it will. My circuit breaker had tripped and simply ran the battery down to point of the bike shutting down. Reset it, recharged battery & 1,000+ miles since it is still running strong.

fair enough. I didn't think the battery really provided any power once the bike is running. You learn something every day.

Well I had the battery load tested and its good. I changed the circuit breaker and still nothing. I turn the key on and no lights and no lights on the ehc. I checked the voltage going to ignition and nothing. I think it might be the ehc.

Moespeeds had this problem on an 04 chopper. I will ask him to respond.

I had the same thing happen to my 04. It turned out to be the EHC. :bang: The second time it happened, it turned out to be the EHC:angry: Now I have a spare at home:up:

Vette,
Check out the Ignition switch for voltage on both sides of the switch when in the on position let others here have recommended. Lots of things to check out for problems before buying an EHC!
No Voltage (Both Sides/"ON")= Bad Ignition Switch
Yes Voltage (Both Sides/"ON")= Good Switch, Move to checking out "Hand Control Switches"
