WTF

I am gonna try to make a long story short. My headlight started acting up last spring, I would start the bike and wouldnt have a low beam but would have a high beam, after about ten minutes of running the low beam would work again. It would flicker off and on every now and then it would go out again but I could allways atleast count on the high beam working. anyway and by the way I did change the bulb(didnt help) I was riding the other day and the headlight went comepletally out, stopped to get some fuel bike wouldnt start just click click click had to push start it, for the most part the bike was running good just no headlight. I called the local bike shop to get her in, on the way there bike just shut completely down about three times. But the strange thing was it would fire right back up. Its at the shop now they call me and said they think it needs a regulator they put it on now it has a headlight at the shop but wont fire. WTF

When I took mine in (05 Ridgeback) for recall work I was told that the headlight pigtail had been recalled. I wonder if your 04 Ridgeback has the same issue/recall?

First check to see if there ever was a repair on the headlight connectors that applied for your BD as per the TSB

There is one for such in the NHTSA Recall Service Bulletin that addresses the headlight and melting connectors.

Thunderheart were the EHC's used on the early BDs and believe me, they are no deal! Only solution re-wire without EHC. Life is better on the other side!

I called around the country to get an EHC and here are the interesting facts about the pricing. Indianapolis 635$ Baton Rouge 530$ Jacksonville Florida535$
and the final decesion Bikes and trikes out of Florida 211$ what a fricking difference some of these shops are really sticking it to us.

Were they all quoting the exact same part number? The newest EHC from what I understand for replacement on the 04 are very high due to have to adapt from new style to fit older 04 models. Normaly in the $500-$600 range, however the last dealer may have quote you an original 04 that they still had in stock and not one of the newer EHC that have been adapated for the 04.

$211 would be very low for a new EHC that is for fitting the 04 unless it is NOS and same as original 04. Doesn't sound apples to apples per say. Nonetheless if the Fla dealer is quoting for a new EHC even if it is NOS of orginal 04 style, would recommend to go for it, since they are hard to find from what I have heard.

EHC price

The original part number for the 04 is BDM 170-00093. I just bought one two months ago for $179. Anything in the $500-600 range is the new one. Supposed to have only a 1% fail rate on the new ones vs a 28% on the old ones. You can decide which one you want to go with:loony:

your probably right about it being an old one for that price, oh well the last one lasted three years hopefully I can get that out of this one.
