it seems as though no matter what is said you have nothin good to say about your big dog...if you are a self proclaimed bike builder then would it be lame of me to say you must be pretty mechanically inclined and that fixin your own bike would not be that much of a hassle, then i have to question if your self built bike is running in that good a condition why spend another big chunk of cash on a big dog??especially one with only 500 miles yet no warranty whatsoever, personally this is why i bought a big dog because it was turn key,bad ass and had a warranty for all the money i spent so if anything major went wrong i feel confident that it would be cover,i feel as though maybe you are havin a bad day or bad week or maybe even a bad life and just need to be a pessimistic type guy, youve bashed big dog motorcycles youve bashed your local dealer ,,,,whos really left... the man in the mirror????the other thing i ponder is if it has no warranty and you are a bike builder why would you take it to your local stealership drop allmost 4 bills to have them service your bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so stop bitchin, cryin, whining about the poor choices YOU make and take responsibility for them instead of blamin everyone else.............................

Here is how I am looking at it...

Just for you "Positive Experience" people... the following post will not be positive! so please move on to reading a different thread...

I am a very mechanically enclined person. I have built many muscle cars, street, and rat rods. I HATE to pay someone to do ANYTHING bike or auto related because I know that I can fix or rebuild just about anything myself.

BUT.... When we pay $30K+ for our bikes, that have 50-70% proprietary parts on them and about 90-100% of the failures are to those parts, BDM SHOULD take care of those issues UNTIL they are or near 100% fixed. OTHERWISE BDM should put standard parts on the damn bike from the start so that it holds up like most any other custom built bike.

I gaurantee that if anyone of use eliminate all the proprietary parts, mainly the electrical parts, that 90%+ of the issues at hand would go away!!!!

I have had since Jan 1st 2008:

(1) EHC Failure - replaced @ 2700 miles
(2) Valve guide complete failure - complete new engine top end @ 2900 miles
(3) Volt Reg. recall Failure - new EHC,battery & headlight bulb @ approx 5000 miles
(4) EHC/Battery failure - new EHC and battery @ 5500
(5) Clutch Carrier Failure - BDM offered free repair & I turned it down
I wanted better parts, bought Bandit Machine Works setup @ 5900 miles
(6) Possible stator failure due to VR failure current issue @ 6300 miles

So, I guess I had about 2500 miles of "easy does it" riding while breaking in my bike after I got it. And then after the new top end got put on the motor I got another 2000 miles of "easy does it" riding before all hell broke loose with the charging /electrical system. And I do give BDM credit for standing up and replacing what they have.

...Thats all, now back to the regular scheduled program "positive BDM experiences"....

I was just reading a post about newbee's coming to this site and seeing nothing but negative experiences or problem bikes.
This site certainly is about us sharing problems with our Big Dogs. Every Bike has problems that come up especially high powered bikes like ours.
What you don't hear is the Hundreds of us that have all our little problems straightened out and are very happy with our Dogs.
Yes some of us have had problems, but the company has taken care of most all of them.
BESIDES, I LOVE RIDING MY BIKE! On my harley yea, it was nice to go for a cruise BUT, on my BIG DOG I just love hoping on it and blasting down the road. It's like my Harley was a Cadillac and my Dog is a Ferrari.
And in truth, I used to drive a 6 series and a 7 series BMWs and I had many more problems with those 80K cars than my 30K Big Dog.
So for those who are lurking here seeing all the problems just be aware you are only seeing the problems not those of us that are happy with our bikes.

I love my bike probably more than most of the members on here do!

(Notice: every positive response in this thread comes from owners with a year other than a 2005 model bike!) :zwhistle:

ridgeback ive couldnt of said it better, thank you. as for your questions jimizz028,i never said i was a "bike builder" i put a bike together did some fab work,it was my first bike,im not a mechanic but i know how to use a wrench, as for buying the bigdog,i had to sell the bike i built cause i needed money right away,i was able to sell the bike to a family member that loves it and didnt want to sell it back even for more then he paid. i really didnt want to go thru all the time and money and some headaches on putting another bike together so i found a bike already done a 2005 bigdog in case you didnt know, and guess what i got back on my feet and had the cash up front and bought it, when i say some headaches i mean in nj its very hard to get a title for a bike you build to many dmv rules and i didnt want to go thru it again, as for me bringing it to this shambo dealer, that was bigdog themselves that asked me to bring it to them when i called them to find out about recalls, they said the bike didnt even have its first service,so i asked if i could get a extended warranty and there answer was bring it to the dealer and they will let me know, but the dealer needs to do the first service, and recalls first, well guess what there jimizee they said no. ok does that answer your questions dad? my opinion on bdm is exactly that and only that. if you read this forum and see all the 05s on here with all the same problems then guess what bdm should do? its called look into it and investigate maybe do some recalls, ever hear of a lemon? lemon law? thats what alot of these 05s are. ive been working on my bike now and trying to fix everything i can,its costing a nice dime, i hope nothing goes wrong with your bike and you have trouble free milage. good luck p.s now that i told you a little about myself lets hear about you jimmizee

Ok here's my .02cents ... If I had to do it over again I would ... in 05' had the money to buy an 05' and did ... could of waited for 06 or 07 but then I would of missed riding all of 05' ... the problems we are having are fixable and yes BDM should step up if the parts are crap. I love my 05' BigDog and I'm willing to pay to fix what's broken to keep it going ... for now. Going to order a Bandit Clutch tomorrow so I can ride. :D

I know that most all problem have been fixed in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 model years for the most part and I wish I would have never given up my 2004 Ridgeback for my 2005 but done is done and I would still buy another.

TRUE COLORS COLLISION
i read these forums before i ever bought my bike,i knew the possibilities of big dogs having issues with them but then again i have built a few hot rods in my days and put high performance parts on my night train and know that as soon as we do not leave well enough alone there will be problems.another words if you wanna stand out from the crowd with custom shit it has a much higher maintenance package,my clutch was slipping i cracked the primary seen the bolt was loose tightened it put it back together and went riding,i didnt jump on this site immediatly and tell everyone what a piece of shit i own,i have read your posts throughout time and all you do is talk about bashin the dogs and dealers and company and i am just here to tell you that you are a minority here, it doesnt happen to many people,i am really sorry that your bike has issues and only hope that you get them straightened out but your constant negativity about these bikes has gotten old,if you feel you have a lemon maybe hire an attorney and thats why i jumped down your throat is because the name of the post is positive things about our bikes and if i aint mistaken it was written cause guys like you post all this bad stuff and the new guys think there future lies within the confines of visiting there bikes on the weekend at the local dealer cause thats where it will spend most of its time.............i have nothin but good things to say i am happy with my bike ,i love lookin at it ridin it and workin on it and i have through my tenor here heard 99% good things coming from the guys and then theres your 1% and thats the point i am tryin to get across,,,i would have never known ridgeback had any problems with his bike cause he aint constantly postin what a piece a crap it is...i am sorry if i pissed off you or anyone else but i dont think the company would be still in buisness if they were actually sellin pieces of shit....also with reference to gettin your shit fixed i have also learned you catch more bees with honey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so kiss some ass and call the right people and if that dealer cant help try another, ask the guys on here who to call at corporate level to get some help ,be part of the solution and not the problem..............or sell it buy another bike and go to there site....i hear iron horse is lookin for a few good men

i think the bike is a nice design, but they could have built it a little better, the bikes are put together on a assembly line, just like a car,so thats why there are so many problems,i built my own bike,it was a ridgid 250 pro street with a 113 elbruto polished motor and 6speed,gota say im not perfect but the bike didnt give me any problems like this one i have now 2005 ridgeback,if it werent for this website i would have sold this shambo, but with the help of this site and the SO MANY been there down that problems you guys really make it easier to fix... so thank you ..as for bdm they are of no help to me and a bunch of other people ive spoke with and rode with that have these bikes, if you have the warranty thats different, but i bought this bike used private owner.i asked bdm if i could get the extended warranty cause the bike had 500miles when i bought it,and they said no,now i no why its a problem child...lol
for the bike you get, these things are great,
im not going to set here and whine about this bolt & that thingy!
a lot of people here own bikes that are "way" over thier heads on riding & mantenence, [thats why we all have this site] "thank,s to the people that put it together" ]
and for the bikes being built on an assembly line, thing about that.
this guy does the same job on that bike all the time! no one is going to be as good as he is at that !
and if your mom & dad had more than one kid, [you were built on one too!]
and they did not get any warranty on your ass!
its a bike, a toy, its fun,
if you can,t change your own oil, have to take it to the dealer of a rubbing noise. [buy a pick-up truck]
a real biker love to get thier hands dirty some times ,that,s what being a biker is all about, don,t just ride it [get to know what makes it tick.]:rant2: :whoop:

this is not aimed at any body, it,s just people that whine on here all the fucking time,"spend the time on your bike instead"

minority? are you a dah dah kid? you dont have many more post then i do..bees with honey? been there done that, reread my post dah dah. im not gonna lie i really do like this bike, but they built it with momo parts sorry, when i put together my bike it was with top i said TOP of the line parts, and still built it cheaper then what i paid for the momo. and if you actully read all my post you will see,i have asked numerous guys about problems with the bike,i just started to get a little angry in the last couple of times, when the honey wasnt working,at bdm,im sorry but i speak the truth, and if you really paid attention to what you read and werent such a minority you would see theres almost every and i say every 05 on here with problems, major problems, not leaky trans but blown trans, not worn clutches but blown hubs, not a loose wire but fried ehc's,and the list goes on my friend,so sit back and understand what your reading,oh and again you dont have a 05 and this is my opinion, dont like it do read it! reloader i do get my hands dirty, nuff said there. if i wanna whine ill whine period.

minority meaning you are one of the few that have problems with your bike on a consistent basis and whats with all the made up words..momo,dah dah ,shambo........ are we supposed to understand this retoric or is the language of those that live too close to power lines and nuclear waste facilities????dude you should really give it a break again i said i was sorry that you were havin these problems but after all you are on a site with a bunch of guys that are truelly fans of Big Dog Motorcycles henceforth the name of the site BIG DOG BIKER and i really dont think everyone wants to hear you constantly talkin about how bad the bikes are and how rotten the company treats you...sell it and buy one of these and join the ridley site and tell them how bad big dogs are PERSONALLY I AM TIRED OF YOU BASHIN OUR BIKES
