Removing front drive pulley from Transmission

So been messing with this for a couple days. Trying to remove the front pulley from the transmission main shaft. These 2 set screws for the nut on the pulley are just not coming out. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did to get them out short of grinding the heads off which I would rather not resort to. Also was curious if the nut on the pulley is left hand thread like the clutch hub nut. TIA

Can you see the first thread on th shaft. If so, should be able to determine rotation. This side of drilling them out you might try tapping a tight fitting torx in and see if you can wiggle it enough to get it out? Just a thought and you have probably already thought about this.

No I can’t actually see it Paul. Yeah I pretty much tried everything for removal short of cutting/ grinding the head off. Which I am figuring will be my after work project today! Thx for the input!

You might have enough meat to get a bolt extractor on/in it, as it is, or you can drill out the center of the buggered up one a little more if needed, I've had pretty good luck with both the drill in/and over type if you dont mind replacing the bolt anyway. I think the nut on the main shaft is reverse thread as well.

So I ended up cutting the heads off the 2 set screw’s & drilling the remaining below the face plate of the pulley nut. Ordered this nifty socket for 1 7/8”main shaft pulley nut (not sure otherwise how to remove without possible damage to the main shaft) and the impact gun did the rest. I’ve decided that being this far in. I am going to remove the rear end and replace the swing arm bearings and the drive belt with a new S&S drive belt I picked up. Then upon reassembly I will decide on replacement of the wet primary with the 2” Ultima open primary I have on the shelf. I just love messing around with motorcycles.
