I stopped into a local cycle accessory store and heard the proprietor and a shopper discussing Big Dogs and customs. Their comments were a) that customs break down frequently; b) you can't ride them for more than 1/2 an hour, so you may as well get a cruiser (specfiically a Honda); c) from what they heard, there were lots of problems with Big Dogs, such that the former local dealer was beseiged with irate customers; d) the factory tried to blame all the problems on the rider; e) who would pay that kind of money for a bike; and f) the custom business is over. I did chime in and tell them I loved my BD and have no problems, etc. Has anyone encountered the same stuff? It certainly doesn't help the image. I guess everyone has to have an opinion.:job:

well jerry, i hope you were indeed polite and understanding of both the proprietor and his customer. it would have also been in order to tell both that they are certainly entitled to their own opinion(s) as yes, this is america.

i might have mentioned that they were a couple of old dried up pussys who have nothing better to do than verbally masterbate about something they obviously know little or nothing about. sorry, that's mean even if delivered with a smile.
sorry i missed you at gettysburg. hope to catch up with you soon. ride safe and smile. chuck

How fucking typical is that..."from what they heard"! There are many reasons that a dealer could be besieged by irate customers that may have nothing to do with the bike itself. Maybe "Goober" their top notch mechanic didn't have the right size cresent wrench to damage the customers high dollar paint job with!

When I first went shopping for my K9, one of my riding buddies said that "choppers are uncomfortable and don't handle well." I knew he was misinformed and it turned out that he sat on 1 chopper in his entire life that was hand-built by a friend of his who never built a bike before. You really have to know the depth of your information sources.

Can't say I've heard a lot of that - I'd just write it off to sheer stupidity, and them let DogVet flame 'em! :D

Misinformed or uninformed chatter by those who obviously have never personally experienced what we have the privlidge to be able to do. I'm with DV on this one.
DV's right, the goober at the so called dealership proably wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box. I've owned about everything made out there at one time or another and with out a doubt my BDM is by far the best motorcycle experience I've ever had. Just the thrill everytime I ride it that never diminishes is beyond compare for me. Now I don't mean any of this to demean any other motorcycle out there, it's just that for me after all these years, my BDM is by far the one that makes me the happiest even when I'm just looking at it.
My 2 cents
