Got my old exhaust gaskets out

Energy One
Is there supposed to be a small hump cast into the exhaust port on the head? I haven't done a lot of exhaust work on automotive stuff but I've always seen square or rounded exhaust ports going straight into the manifold but not any with a hump at the end.

I had the compressed mesh type gasket in mine that I was able to coax out of the ports and thought I had a severely screwed up old gasket until I saw the corresponding hump that's cast into the exhaust runner. I haven't put the new gaskets up to it yet to see how everything fits but I have just never seen anything like that.

If the weather holds, I'll get the new gaskets in place and hopefully the intake manifold gaskets replaced as well. I got the stock petcock out and there were a few flakes of the tank liner near the bottom of the petcock but there was still a ton of free and clean mesh strainer. However, I still want to put the inline fuel filter in place since last summer the bike was running fine until I took the jets out to check their sizes, then put them back in and a day or two later it stopped running due to a small spec of crud getting past the strainer and into the jets.

If you're talking about the exhaust port, short turn, internal floor casting, that looks like a reverse ass crack, yes, that's normal. :oldthumbsup:John
