Is this a good deal?

Energy One
I have my 05 ridgeback at the dealer getting warranty work done. I just got this bike a few weeks ago, and as it turns out, the stock E carb AND restrictor plates are still on it. The dealer, who I have never used before and is not in the good/bad dealer list here, says he will remove the E carb and restrictor plates, install a new G carb and intake, as well as dyno tune the bike for $615.00

first off at least he knew about the restrictor plates - some dealers apparently do not so that is a tick in the box straight away

second, do you want to change from an E to a G?

as for the price I'll let others chime in on that

I checked an old invoice..

Carb G bdm p#100-00028 $419.36
Mainfold G Bdm 190-00049 $71.85
Labor +/- $75
Big Dog Prices are high...But he's not stealing...@ $615

If you go with it, its not to bad of a price including the dyno tune. I think I paid a little over $500 for the deal two years ago with no dyno tune. You'll get the carb and new manifold as well as your old E back which you can sell if you wish. You will notice some loss on low end power when you go from the E to the G but if you have other mods planned you'll end up doing it one way or the other. If you don't do the G, you should aleast remove the restictor plates and have a good set of pipes. My .02:2thumbs:

Triple X will modify your carb for $145. Two day turn around. I'm still running this E carb, almost 4 yrs now!
"E" CARB: BORE and POLISH the venturi to 42MM (stock 39MM) AND INSTALL THE XXX
'ORIGINAL BOOSTER KIT'
Chrome is extra of course!

Thanks for your input everybody, I really do appreciate it.

Let me make sure I understand, the G carb is "better" than the E carb, right?

Also, I spoke with the dealer just before they closed, and he did say that he would honor that price for a least 90 days. I was looking around (ebay) and found several "G" carbs for $200 - $300, and could go that way an install myself, and have the dealer dyno tune for $100 an hour.

If I choose to go with keeping what I got and just taking out the restrictor places, where do I get the spacers I need to use to prevent intake leaks?

Thanks again, bros....:2thumbs:

talk to nelson he can get you the g package for like 300 somethin dollars and install it yourself real simple to do,just do a search on carb install gas has a good how to on here..if you dont have anything else done to the bike like motor wise then a dyno tune is just a waste of money..

KD, here is a thread on what the restrictor plates look like. You can order them from your dealer or get them from our sponsor Nelson. If you just pull them you will have sealing problems so best to get the spacer plates.

He is another thread on the E verses the G carb. I still have the E but it is bored out my Triple X. As they tell it smaller bores offer better velocity for the low end and bigger bores allow better breathing at high rpms so depends on your riding style what best suites you.

I have to say that if I went back to an S&S carb I would think very hard about going with an E instead of the G. Top end outright power is just not something I ever use.

and just to follow on from what Ray said and to answer Korben's question directly - the E and G are identical except for size and one is not better than the other
