MY WINTER PROJECT

Some of you may of read my other post about looking for a 06 Mastiff. Well, during my search I came across this 04 Chopper in PA. It has a 117, a DT frame. From what I was told, it sat in his friends basement for 7 years. And as you can see it looks like it. But the price (to me) was resonable. Under 5,000. Alot just needs a good polish. Then there is some parts that are just to far gone. It has, from what I was told an upgraded EHC setup from Big Dog back in the day? Never seen this setup before. It looks like this 04 is using an EHC off the 05's and newer. I'm buying some used parts off Ernie to dress it up a bit. Rocker box's are peeling a bit as the side cover. But over all I think it's in pretty good condition. I do have a question. The oil tank is empty. From sitting is it possible for the oil to drain into the motor and sit there? I don't want to fill the oil tank and have to much oil when the time comes to start it. All the electrical works. Blinkers and such. My goal is to not sink thousands of dollars into it. Just clean it up and replace some of the parts with some thing used. So thats my story. Take a look at the pictures. And it already has the Kerker exhaust on it. That is why I was asking about the one on Ebay . If it would fit.

That EHC has a adapter board so the 2004 single connector will work with 2005 and newer ones. Not really a upgrade?

That’s a crying shame to let a bike get like that . I wish you the best of luck on the resurrection. Space Coast Plating in Melbourne Florida does great work on chrome. Cheers with a few Cold Beers! I think you may need them!:chopper:

It may be too far gone, but, I use 4 ought steel wool, and Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner/polish. If there are NO pits, or rust break threw, you may be in luck.

Thanks guy's for all the suggestions. I have been using mothers, aluminum foil, (seen that trick on here) and all kinds of metal polish. Yes John most parts are pitted. But after cleaning it up looks much better. It will never look new. I did expect that though. I can live with the pits. It's the chrome peeling I don't like. So over time I will keep looking for a deal. Every now and then I run across parts someone is selling cheap. In the mean time ir's all about elbow grease.

Not sure if it would be cheaper buying used parts that look better or take it apart and rechrome them. I am sure it is not cheap. I did check out there web site. I also noticed that they may not chrome anything if the piece is to bad. So we will see.

I do find Space Coast to be more reasonable than a lot of others. Like Mick mentioned, they can be picky, if the piece is to far gone. Also check with them on having parts, that may have been left there forever. ;)

That's a lot of work right there, going to be hard to save the chrome. Aluminum can be saved just pull up a chair and get ready for a lot of hours. Looks like a full tear down to me. Vadar wheels...don't see those often.

Don't forget to check inside the tank, if they left gas in it you might be in for a relining.

Indeed lots of work. But I started to clean it up and surprisingly it is looking real good. The pieces that are peeling will have to be replaced. Like the rocker covers. Only the top's are bad. Check out the picture's I just posted. The picture of the exhaust was done with aluminum foil and water! Clean it up and took out the pit's. The inside of the gas tank still has the liner in one piece. No rust.IMG_4081.JPGIMG_4080.JPGIMG_4079.JPGIMG_4078.JPGIMG_4077.JPG
