I am adding to the already informational knowledge base on the web for your chopper and mine. The old timers here can ignore my posts, these are for lucky new guys like me.

Issue:
My Speedometer stop working. I have tachometer lights but no speedometer or odometer.
The speedometer needle does the self check bounce from 0 to 30.

My steps:

I checked and I had power to the speedometer sensor.
I removed the sensor and cleaned it exceptionaly well.
Still failed to work.

Fix:

I bought and installed a new sensor from WildSteeds.

The speedometer bounces from 0 to 30 when ignition key is flipped.

The speedometer works and is accurate with no adjustment needed.

Karma smiled on me, I wonder what I did to deserve such an easy fix. Be kind ya'll

What was your speedo doing when it was broke, mine does your normal check when you turn the key on but then it'll be at 100 miles an hour or needle will be pinned, The mileage numbers shoot up and they have been as high as 90,000 then it comes down to 11,000 something which is my actual real mileage and all this because I ran over some water crossing the road last year up in the mountains I'll have to try your fix maybe it'll work. Where is the sensor is it right on top of the tranny.

Yes it is on top of the tranny...i dont know where it is at on the forum but it talks about recalibrating you speedo....one of my bikes did this few years ago, where like your saying speedo went crazy....i would be running 40 and it showed 100 or whatever it was showing....anyways i installed a new speed sensor and then done the recalibration method and all problems fixed....just type in speedo calibration and you should be able to find it in one of the threads here...

I'm to excited just riding her..I know that's the wrong attitude but I'm going to check your solution out thanks for share..

All you may have to do is clean the end of it once you take it out, but most likley its went bad and you will have to replace it.....bigdogpartskingpin.com has what you need

Yes just take the bolt out and you should be able to wiggle it up out of the hole by twisting clockwise and counterclockwise and pulling up at the same time...look at the end and see if it has stuff all over besides just fluild....if it does you may be able to just wipe it off and reinstall it and see if it works right...but 9 times out of 10 its probably went bad....one other thing you can do is check the wiring jst connector where it plugs into the harness to see if its connected good or got shit in the plug causing a bad connection....before you reinstall the jst plug connectors together put a little bit of dielectric grease in the plug before you push them back together
