open Primary

Does anyone know what open primary systems are available for the 06 K9? I see baker and I believer karata. From what I have seen about Karata on youtube I am not sure I would enjoy the sound it makes.


Does Bandit, BDL, or ulitima make open primaries for the 06 K9?

Also, does anyone have opinions on which one they like?

I have a karata and love the sound! Also really like their clutch! They have had some complaints on the forumn about the availability. Personally I had a great customer service with karata

I have found two other open primary makes, Rivera Primo and Performance Machine. However, with BDL, Rivera Primo, and Performance Machine I cannot tell if they make a primary that will fit an 06 k9.

I installed a Baker and couldn't be happier. Thing fits like a glove and comes with easy to follow instructions.

I'm gonna say that has to do the diaphram or springs it comes with. You can order lighter pressures. But you also loose some disk bite for high hp applications...

My :zz2cents: - I can't see how anyone could not like the sound but best of luck with whatever you choose.

At the time I had my 3" Karata installed, I was told that the Bandit clutch would not fit. I went with the Piranha Jr. Clutch Pack.

I just had a baker open belt put on in Daytona. Clutch pull is the same pressure - I found no difference. Can't remember what clutch was provided by baker. Curtis from WSW got us a great deal on a group by a little while back. Pricey - yes - worth it to me - yes. I'll post some pics later

I also have the Karata and love it. Wanted to get another one for the ridgeback but heard the lead time to have one made will take forever. I've gotten all kinds of comments from harley guys asking if I had a turbo on the scoot... When I tell them it's the belt making the whine, they say it's bad ass! :2thumbs:

I haven't heard much about the Tauer amd haven't really heard anyone on here mention they have one. Would be interested to hear some reviews if anyone has one installed.

Do the 3" belts make it difficult for your legs or difficult to turn left? I have have a huge breather on the right side so I do not want to add a ton of difficulty on the left side? Thinking a 2.5" but the 3 looks awesome.

No, no issues with the 3" and left turns. If anything were to hit, it would be the pegs. The pegs still stick out further than the belt drive.

I have a 3 3/8'' belt, and If you look at the lower front edge, you can see where I drug it once. I did this making a left hand turn from a stop sign, and there was a dip in the road. If you look just under the primary, you will see a tab sticking out. Your kick stand is more than likely behind your primary, but mine is in front. This tab is mounted to my kick stand to help me put it down, but it is also there, so it will drag before I hit my primary again.

This thread is from 2015. Cannot get open primary for BigDog motorcycles at this time unless you find a used one. They are out there but few and far between.
