Rear axel removal

I have been thru the past post but can't find an answer first off I think my dog is a pro street its a 2000 with 117 my rear drive is on my left. My question is after removing the bolts on each side I can see what looks like a allen head bolt in center of axel does that need removing or do I just try to drive the axel out? Sorry if this is stupid question but don't want to screw anything up I need to buy a manual.thanks in advance..

There are two allen screws in each side. They both need to come out.

Sorry Rottweiler, that's not what he is talking about.
After you remove the nut on your axle, actually it may be a bolt in the end of the axle on yours. Take a long punch and push the axle out. The adjustment set screws the Rottweiler was talking about do not need to be removed.

So what are those Allen head bolts in the middle of the axle for? I'm trying to learn something .

Well guys most hacked up thing I've ever seen someone cut the axel at one end then drilled and tapped it so it was a 2 piece axel... new one on the way I get a chance I'll post picture of the mess

That's just CRAZY. Can you imagine that axle failing at 80 mph. What people will do to save a buck

Another place people try to save a buck on a Bike is to plug a tire. When I bought my chopper it had a plug in the back tire. First thing it got changed. Didn't want the picture of it going flat going down the interstate

I'll admit to plugging a rear tire once -- but it was so I could nurse the bike home -- no interstate, 4 way flashers on and not above 30mph -- only had like 5 miles to go. Now I have AAA plus RV and I just call.
