My 04 the tach is not working but I do have turn signals on the bottom And the Speedo lights up and no neutral light. Any suggestions before I order a new ring. I just put a new backbone harness on, and it’s still not working. Ps. The harness was because someone didn’t know what they were doing with the ignition and added a car relay

Probably bad solder joints. If you take your ring out, carefully look at the back of the board. Take a good small solder pencil and hit any that look suspicious.

Usually the tach ring either all works or it doesn't work at all, jump the neutral switch wiring just to rule out the neutral switch itself. I just had to replace mine on my 04 actually.

Considering the relay situation does it still have the stock thunderheart or did that ever get swapped out?

It still all stock. Really I have no idea where the neutral safety switch is. I just never had any problems with one on any bike. If the switch goes out will it still start. And will it start in gear. I have never tried to start it in gear. I actually thought that it was to keep you from starting it in gear.

Sitting right on top of the transmission got two wires going to a plastic plug. Unhook it and just jump the two pins with the key on.

Its not a neutral "safety" switch, it's just a neutral indicator switch. Not tied to starting, nothing safety about it..lol

My tach ring just went out today also... I hope I can expect the same thing? A broken solder weld? 2006 k9
Welp, the next day I started the bike and the tach ring worked. I should've been a little more specific, the tach as a whole worked fine it did the sweep at start up, all the lights worked. Just the rpm mode of the tach while I was riding was the only thing not working. Now it does.

What did you do to make it work?

Mine does that now and again. If I start it and the tact isn't working, usually the high beam indicator and neutral light won't work either. I just shut it off, cycle the key a couple times and restart it.

I have had this to happen and when i have it was a low voltage start up and then tach wouldnt work....i shut the bike off after it ran a few minutes then refired and it worked....not always the case with some but i have had this to happen several times thru the years

Well I got the neutral switch tested. It didn’t come on with a jumper. So that tells me the tach ring is either unsoldered or just bad. Got so hot in shop with 3 fans going wasn’t going to take on that task. I got on black chopper and followed the wife 15 miles to grocery store. Topped off with fuel and went home. Lil man wanted to make some jerky so we made jerky.bought some orange nail polish for $2 and touched up front fender. Had a rock chip. 554D5675-C4E6-41B4-BFDC-322207405C21.jpeg
