I have an 07 K9 and it calls for fiberglass washers between the heads and the Coil Cover. Does anyone know if that is an absolute necessity or can I use a stainless washer. I can't find fiberglass washers anywhere local. Thanks

Yeah the fiberglass washer help with the vibration to the key switch and still make a good solid mount up...stainless washers wont help with the vibration and will soon take out the key switch....HDM has them if you can stand to wait a couple days so they have time to ship them to ya

Thanks for the info I didn't know what there purpose was.

I say absolute nonsense. No chance of impeding any heat transfer or vibration.
I have tried with and without. Zero difference.

My Local ace hardware had these they were just called fiber washers and were identical to the ones I got from Donna. you may look at that if you have an ace locally

Fiberglass ladders offer the best choice for both for long life and safety from electrical conductivity.

You know how E likes to travel in/over things? Glass stops the path to a dead stop. A steel washer would open the path again. You want the path back to the plug's gap to ground. So the coil is remote, as if in the air and E runs over the coil body, the plug wires and eventually jumps that gap to ground.

Yes, replace with fiberglass washers.

It would be interesting to know what the engineers' reasoning was. My guess would be more on the electrical insulation properties mentioned. The coil does pack a wallop

No, because the top center mount doesn't have one. My guessing is to reduce heat transfer

Heat transfers via conduction, radiation, and convection.

Yes you could theoretically reduce conduction, but not the other two.

Tell me how the 350 deg head heat transfer ,1mm away will be impeded. You could completely remove the washer all together with an air gap, (Best case) I got money it makes zero difference.

I have had metal washers on my since I purchased the pitbull back in 2006 and installed them on the ridgeback during the build. I didn’t even realized they used fiberglass washers until reviewing the parts diagram . So if my key melts I guess I should replace them ?
long conversation over washers ??? Lol

I, as well, have always wondered what the purpose of these fiberglass washers is. I checked a few years ago to see if I had them, and they were in there. Maybe it is heat. Several guys have said their keys get very hot. My key is never more than slightly warm. This may have to do with engine tune though. Electrical insulation doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Electricity could travel through the motor mount or coil head bolts. My only other theory is maybe they reduce stress on the coil cover as things flex under torque. As much knowledge as there is on this site, those little buggers sure are a mystery!
