I was riding and the bike cut off, took the battery out there was no juice. Put a fresh battery in and went to connect wires and the last hot wire touched the terminal and the bike tried to fire. (Key was off) what the hell could it possibly be? I had to put it on a roll back and it about killed me. Any help is appreciated

Welcome Will,

Which Big Dog do you have ? Your original battery may have shorted and taken out your EHC. Pull the green wire off the top of the starter so you can troubleshoot without fear of the starter engaging. (Caution) If that wire has 12volts on it the solenoid will engage and try to start the bike.
With the battery disconnected inspect your wiring for signs of shorts, especially under your seat and larger sized cables +Power and - Ground. Make sure they are clean and tight. If you don't see anything obvious ( with green wire still disconnected) reconnect the battery Pos first Neg next like Jersey James says. With the battery connected read the voltage at the green wire. If it's 12v it will trigger the starter (don't connect it hot) continue trouble shooting because something is telling the EHC to send the voltage to the starter. On the top of the EHC are led's that will help troubleshoot shorts if you have one or more.
One of our members Mr. Wright has lot's of manuals and Wire diagrams that will help you. Members are very willing to help you so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I have an 05 ridgeback. There’s also no lights on the speedo/odometer but the bike is still trying to crank itself even with the key out.

You obviously have a short that is completing the starter circuit. Sounds like a controller issue. I rewired my bike with certain components left out of any controller actuated environment. I would look in to a DOC controller.

Kinda wonder if the key switch is trying to jump across because of internal switch damage but at the same time im wondering how its jumping across your handle bar switch....you got a serious short somewhere...i would undo the green wire on the starter so the bike doesnt try to start and then hook battery back up...but i would just touch the positive lead and see what happens cause shit may go crazy ....if nothing happens then put the key in and see if lights come on like they should when you turn the switch on....just going to have to start somewhere to start ruling out where the short is...

let us know if it still has the stock ehc on it....take some pics under the seat so we can all see what you have ehc wise

I figured it out the module is bad. I ordered the new replacement harness bigdog offers I’ve installed one before on a different bike so hopefully that cures the issue
Good news!
You will probably see what fried your EHC when you rewire the bike. I suspect a couple of melted wires will appear. Check your headlamp to make sure you don't have a short hiding inside which may have started all this. I haven't experienced that myself but there are several links that refer to that being one of the "shorting issues" these bikes have.
