Starter Question for IronHorse S&S 111

Energy One
Good Morning all and I hope all are safe. Starter on my 06 Tejas is making a nasty squeel when I lay on it for a second or more. Considering replacing it. A few questions ...
1) I understand the starter to be rated at 1.4kw. Any issue going up to a 1.7? I know it will draw more on the battery.
2) Is the starter S&S based or it is Model based, meaning I have to get an IronHorse starter? Of course being no longer mfg'd the "IronHorse" anything is pricey.
3) Looks to be a relative easy swap. I am mech. handy so any input on that would be appreciated.
4) Thank you for allowing the IH post. Much appreciated.

Since you have Mech skills just pull it and rebuild it yourself . They are fairly simple and you may find a rebuild kit and instructions on the internet. Who knows maybe an little grease or lube and you'll fine. I wouldn't wait too long because it may get worse and damage other parts of the bike. If you don't want to do it try to find an alternator/generator/starter rebuild shop near you.
Remember to disconnect the battery before you do the removal.

I bought a new stateroom my big dog from Curtis at WSW and have had no issues since I installed it. I am confident he could set you up with one for AIH.

consulting and buying from him takes the guesswork out for me

Yeah good thought. I will pull it this weekend and check for a little maintenance that may take care of it.

Hi scooterlamb
Moving upon amperage from 1.4kw to 1.7kw won’t affect anything. It’s probably the starter clutch in the nose cone. They’re easy to replace and you can take it to autozone and match it up to a Dodge Ram starter clutch. When I built my bike I put an Ultima 127” in it and used the starter from a late 90’s Grand Cherokee. Just used the jackshaft and nose cone from an old Harley starter. The only issue was making sure it was clocked correctly so it would fit in the space.
