Well That was a $hit$how

Energy One
Went to go purchase an 06 Pit yesterday! Had confirmation email the night before it starts and battery is on charge, should be no problem after your 5hr drive. Get there on time battery dead and NO WAY they ever started it. Tried jumping it ... dead! Checked oil, very little oil I would be afraid to ride it any length of time. Pics posted looked great but it had a lot of oxidization all over the motor, rust on bolts and other metal parts. Paint on fender screwed up from the suction cups. Bike only had 4K miles on it .... barely rode.

They went and purchased a new battery. Bike started and Damn I miss that nasty sound! I tried not getting excited and when through normal checks. High beam did not work and front turn signals did not work. Dash was dead as well. Found oil under the primary as well. They said they would go down to $7800 but I declined and walked away. I did not need another project bike and bring it home and first thing I do is take it to the shop and have it gone through from top to bottom.

I dont know .... maybe my expectations for buying a 14yr old bike was too high. I have an 09 bike now that is damn near immaculate. Hated walking away from a bike with maybe after a couple of thousand more could have been amazing but not willing to take that chance. Again maybe expectations are set too high??

Sorry to hear about the problems with the bike. This just says it was not the right bike for you. There are others out there, you may just have to wait for that one that will catch your eye and it will say I am ready for you.

Looking forward to retirement
You did the right thing. I have been liking for 2 yrs for a Ultra Classic me and Colleen can pack down, throw our legs over and blast off for 1-2 week trips. With her neck disk replacement and damaged hamstring she can only do 2-3 days on the Bigdog. This Rushmore project actually has larger than normal passenger seat. She is like sitting in a big recliner behind me. Don’t get me wrong I will never sell my dog and I still ride the hell out of her. So don’t be afraid to walk away from one. Hell I walked away from 15-20 because the bikes were not what was told to me.

Knows some things
I was just going to say what Hman said. It's true. I drove 8 hours to look at a bike that wasn't what I was told it would be. Drove half way back home, turned around and went back. Still couldn't pull the trigger on it. Drove all the back home, then went back the next weekend and got it. She was mine, I was just a little hard headed.
You'll know when you find the one for you.

It's a national market for bikes like these, so it can be tough to find the right one.

I was lucky - my 06 was in pretty good shape (it seemed) and was just right up the road in Dallas (3 hrs). I paid $11K, but I've spent quite a bit on it since. Biggest bill was for the new clutch and tranny rebuild. I replaced the shocks myself, and made some other optional mods to run up the final tally. But it is probably pretty safe to say you'll spend a few grand after you get any chopper.

A set of tires is half a grand, so get used to it........ :)

I looked all over my neck of the woods. Everything I looked at just wasn't what I wanted or required way too much for the funds. Was online one night and saw what I wanted. Only problem was it was on the other side of the country and I'm not in the habit of buying something

Lots of members on here are willing to check out a bike for another member. I have been on both ends of this with parts and motorcycles. Asking is free
Appreciate the comment. Never thought of that. I have my eye on one in the Atlanta area ... I will see if I can stir up a soul to possibly view it for me. I'm 8 hrs from there. Thanks again.
