Oil light

New member here. I recently purchased a 2008 big dog ridgeback, the oil light has come on, I believe it is the oil light. What type of oil are you guys using? This is the oil light right? The red light on in the picture

like Paul said above, if it is just coming on at low idle, it may not be low on oil. idle should be 1000 rpm +- maybe 100 rpm. some run a lower idle just so it sounds like it has a stronger cam in it than it actually does. DO NOT OVERFILL.

I would be willing to bet it comes on while it's on the kickstand and if you stood it straight up, I bet it comes off? Your just a tad low on oil. The rigids tank is mounted on the bottom and the suction is on the right rear.

Are your lifters making noise? 1000 RPM at idle you should have enough pressure to put the light out. Get hold of a pressure gauge, and install it. Start engine, mark down what it says, let the engine warm up(hot to the touch) and record what the gauge says. Obviously if the gauge reads 1 or 2 pounds, when you start the engine, don't go any further till you find the problem.

Like stated above make sure your idle is at 1000 RPMs anything lower than that can cause motor damage. Anything higher than that and it’s not an RPM issue with your oil light it is something else. Any Quality V-twin 20/50 weight oil should be fine. I use spectro 20//50 Full synthetic in my 2009 ridgeback and V twin Mobile 1 full synthetic in my street glide. Also make sure when you check your oil level that your bike is standing upright and not leaning on the kickstand. If you do a search on this site you will find a manual for your specific bike. I know I seen it for an 08 Ridgeback on here somewhere. If you can’t find it let me know and we will figure out how to get a copy to you as I have one for the 08.

On oil. I use 10 / 40 Rotella Oil for break in. Usually leave it in for 100 miles. After that, and before the dyno work, I use 15 / 50 Mobil Synthetic Oil. The Mobil One gets replaced at 1100 miles. After that it's Mobil One 15 / 50, changed at 4,000 + or - miles for the life of the engine. FWIW, I've been doing this forever, and NEVER had a problem. V-Twins, and Jap street bikes. Oh, and it's easy on the wallet to boot.
