How fat a girl can I put on my 2005 Chopper DT?

She's 6'1" 350. Add my own 160 and that poor bike would have to lug over 500 lbs.
Fattest girl I've had on there so far was just shy of 200 and the Chopper rode her like a champ.
I noticed the rear fender doesn't have the reinforcement bars underneath it like the Harleys do.
I don't see any weight rating in the owners manual but I could cut down to 150 lbs if the total needed to be under a 500 lb rating.

dry weigh of k-9 is 701, gvwr is 1130

That means according to manual, 429lbs load including fuel, oil, rider, passenger and luggage.

Now I can tell you that I have exceeded this on many occasions without incident.

I can also say that I got carried away one year and had 450lbs between me and passenger but got carried away with the luggage (hard saddle bags, cross country bag, bdm roll bag, t-bag meant for handle bars) and that was the year I snapped a strut bolt that mounts strut to frame.

I've since stopped with the hard bags (that bike was totalled anyway) and not had any further problems.

This range of 400lbs seems to be the standard for most motorcycles that I've looked at.

Also consider you center of gravity with someone that's twice your weight riding on the bike being what some 6" to 8" higher that you. It will really effect the handling of the bike.

I have a question. WHY?
I often find myself asking that same question and I don't have a good answer.

I didn't see a GVWR in the owner's manual but have to assume on the Chopper it's less than the K9.
Snapping a strut bolt is pretty much all I need to hear.
If 400 is the standard than anyone over 250 wouldn't qualify and even that would be pushing it.

I've had a variety of shapes and weights on bikes (not necessarily this bike) so I'm pretty good at taking things slow until I get the feel of the passenger and we wouldn't be traveling that far but then again the fear of the strut bolt snapping, especially if I end up investing $1200 in a sissybar/luggage rack setup, is a risk I wouldn't want to take.

Well when I snapped the strut bolt it was on a road trip from NJ/PA to Thunder on the Beach via Tail of Dragon/Cherohala skyway etc. Discovered it in the middle of nowhere alabama -- do a search the entire saga is on here somewhere. It was a real experience!

I expect the 400lb range is valid for the chopper as all the BDM models in 08 about apprx the same -- Most harleys and hondas are also rated at about that -- seems not to be a brand/model thing.

For the 06 chopper - dry is 653 gvwr is 1085 -- I expect other years are very similar.

I like them Short I like them tall I like them big I like them small hell I like them all.
That’s why I took the passenger pegs clean off my ridgeback.
That keeps me out of trouble With the wife of 40 yr. I don’t think she’d appreciate me riding around some other chick no matter what size said chick is.
She rides with me on the street glide and the street glide don’t leave the shop without her on it LOL
The Riged is a little rough riding for her taste .

You like what you like and that’s good enough reason.

Opens up a lot of options I imagine. Sometimes I wish it would do it for me. Hot girls are a$$holes lol.
