question on primary covers (05 Pitbull)

seems like a LOT of confusion on the subject.
Well now I am going to add to the confusion. Since I took out 10oz of oil the bike shifts better and now I can get it into neutral with little effort. I'm not kidding you guys , when it had 32oz of oil in it I had to shut the bike off to get it into neutral 99% of the time. I thought I was going to have to do some clutch adjusting but not now. :oldwtf:

About a month after I bought my bike, the inner primary got cracks and started leaking. The warranty covered that. A few years later, it started leaking again. I figured the same thing happened, so I got the baker open primary to permanently fix the problem. After reading this, I'm starting to wonder if the recommended amount was just too much oil. Oh well, I don't have to worry about it leaking now.

I had another customer say the same thing.

it all kinda makes sense. too much oil would: never let the clutch discs fully separate, pressurize the primary causing seal leaks + the possibility of causing stress cracks in the primary housing if the pressure got way up there. let's go for a class action lawsuit!!!! oh, wait, we gotta have a defendant. oh, well. lol

My 05 Bulldog is living with 20oz and doing ok.... Though i have to say even with this amount the bike does creep forward in neutral rather like an automatic transmission in drive. It was a bit annoying at first but a light foot on the rear brake stops it. i found the gentle creep is quite useful for slow manouvers in tight spots and on hill starts. Does anyone else have a bike that does same or is mine unique????

I'm not saying too much oil caused the primary to crack. That might be a stretch, although you do raise a valid question. Is that possible? The second time the primary started leaking, I'm not sure it was cracks. I just figured that it was. I'm wondering if it was just worn out seals due to too much oil.

I was just bringing to light some of the thoughts that keep me awake at night. this one happens to be relatively tame. it would, more than likely, take 10's of thousands of pounds to put cracks in the primary, way more than over-filling with oil could cause.
