Oil/breather line

Ok , here is where I pick the brains of the experts.
Back story,,,, picked this bike up from a HD dealer and I don't have much confidence in their guys. ( I have my reasons ) found this line loose not hooked up to anything setting behind airbreather. I found it due to oil being splattered on exhaust ( not a lot but enough to piss me off) I see a lot of bikes with this line run up behind the breather but not sure where it ties in to.
Part 2, should it be spitting any fluid out or is that a sign of to high of pressure in case?

If the other end of that is connected to the crankcase, You can do several things with it. Originally it connected to the back of the air cleaner. Lot of guys took it off because it would soak the air cleaner with oil. Some run it down and tie it to the frame, and either let it drip there or they put a can on it to catch the oil. I could not see a need for it, because the crank case will vent through to push rod tubes and out vents on the side of the head, where the air cleaner bolts to. I call S&S and inquired about it, and they said that yes, you can plug that hole in the back of the crank case, that it won't hurt anything. Both my 107 engines have been done this way. The 117's are different.

I cant see the pic cause its dark...looks like crankcase breather tube...if so it hooks on the back of the carburetor plate...and yes they will spit little oil out ..s&s engines (evo style)can breath thru the crankcase or the upper end....opps looks like Mr Wright has answered you while i was typing....he knows his shit and faster at typing than me...

And another thing make sure ur bike has the right oil filter....got me to thinking about it since u said it came from a harley dealer....twin cam oil filter are the WRONG filters for these bikes...not saying they did anything to it but they r bad about selling and installing the wrong filter....ive seen this happen more than once....run like a wix 51225...or a k&n 170c...whatever u run just make sure its not for a twin cam

I don't think they changed any fluids , they were supposed to but I'm not seeing signs they did. Thanks for the heads up on that .
Yes the tube was connected and the tech had made a comment about moving it , didn't realize he ment disconnect and hold with zip tie. Thanks for letting me know about common spitting of fluid.
I'm checking several things on this bike like the swing arm shocks are facing forward......... meaning the adjustment side is forward not pointing to rear wheel . I could be wrong but that just seems like a catch all to me.

Idk nothing about the rear shocks on these bikes...all i have ever owned and mainly messed with is rigid frames....ive took shocks off and built rigid kits for these bike and other bikes but i never paid attention to the shock direction...im sure Mr.Wright will chim in on this and let u know...maybe someone else might know and respond also...

Yea, they are suppose to point the other direction. Also, there is supose to be a plate that bolts to the bottom of the frame. It's there to prevent the shock from going all the way to the ground, if you loose a front bolt. I'll try to remember to get a picture tomorrow.

Very interesting, yeah no plate here. I can fab a plate , may even polish it to a nice finish.
It's a shame a HD dealer does such slack work and sets up for failure. Maybe I'm just the weird one that cleans and checks stuff lol

Ur not weird and if u r then there is a bunch of us on here that are weird cause we clean the shit out of our bikes and check every little thing to keep them in good shape mechanical wise lmao....

MECHANICS are getting hard to find anymore....By mechanics im talking REAL mechanics like Mr Wright and Kaptainamerica and there is others on here that are....these people im talking about are true mechanics...to me a mechanic is someone that understands how it works...if you dont understand how it works then u cant fix it...and that goes with anything really... u got to understand how it works to fix it....what we have anymore in these shops are what i call Technicians not really a mechanic....if they cant hook it up to a computer they dont know what could be wrong...but there is alot of good shops still out there with good mechanics...sorry if i offend anyone this is just my opinion....problem i have is people getting charged 75 to 100 and hour and all there getting is really nothing...end result is a bunch of idk what wrongs and whateverr else they can think of and then here u go here is ur bill for 2500.00 and nothing got fixed...so with that being all said u come to the right spot to get work done on ur big dog cause there is some real mechanics on here in my opinion...

I have a memory a 1/4'' long and only use half of it sometimes. Got home tonight and seen I forgot the picture. I ran down to the shop and learned something tonight. Looked under my 04 Chopper and there isn't a plate, nor are there any holes to mount it. So I looked under an 04 Mastiff that's in my shop, same thing. The 09 K9 had the plate, but it's differant than what I had on the 03 Chopper. So I guess if you have a couple bolt holes in the cross member in front of your shocks, put a plate on it. Got me nervous now, because I've lost a shock bolt once. Luckily it was a rear bolt and I just drug the shock till it wore the eyelet off. But if you loose a front bolt.........., that couldn't be good.

Knothead , I agree 100% , I'm fairly easy to get along with and do my part to make repairs go smooth. Even in my trade we have parts swappers. Real tech's with ears and fabricators are unfortunately becoming a thing of the past.

When you get enough post on here, you will qualify for private messaging. At that point I'll get you my number, and I can walk you through just about any repair you need to do. I talked guys through some tough repairs, and they didn't know how to change their own oil in their car.

Mr. Wright , true statement, I've lost ...... busted a universal ( front on rear shaft )in a 4x4 ,, jacked the tail right off the ground. I won't swear to it but I think my oh hell grip prints are still in the old steering wheel.

Got to thinking, while you have the shocks off, check your transmission bolts.

Interesting all the k9 have the maybe it's an 05+ thing. Sounds like something you should fab for yourself because yea a front Bolt goes and you might go with it!
