Not starting red oil light on

Hey guys. I have an '04 Mastiff S&S 107. It's not starting. Red oil light possibly check engine light comes on. Thunder Heart ignition module light does not come on. Starter engages and I see gas squirting in the carb but.. Could this be as simple as being low on oil?? Going to do an oil change but would that really cause it not to start? Thanks for any advice

Oil isnt the problem as it doesnt have a oil low limit igntion switch...ignition module wont just light up with the ignition switch on unless it right on the money with the sensor and cup in the nose cone...if the module is working correctly it should blink as u are spinning the motor over...check and see if it is doing that while ur trying to start it

No it doesn't light up at all. I installed a wires plus kit years ago so no EHC anymore

The starter turns over pretty easily with a full charged battery but the ignition module doesn't flash. Light never comes on

Hmmmmm so i went back and read little closer...ur saying oil light stays on no matter what while ur trying to crank it or just when the switch is on not running?

Possibly the wire plus has took a shit or cam sensor is bad...usually a cam sensor wont just go out completely they will act crazy...like no starting then 20 mins later start or just die going down the road....then little later restart after it cools off...has any of that happened?

Do a search. Cam sensors are easy to test. Make sure you have power going to the ignition module. Check the plugs to it also. I have found broke pins in the plugs before. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and gently pull on them.

Well yes. As I was riding bike started surging and back firing. Then it just died completely. Trailered it home. Still won't start. Red light stays on

1. Disconnect the cam sensor from the ignition module.
2. Take out your trusty multimeter and set it to the RX1 scale.
3. Now while touching the sensor backing plate with the negative meter lead touch the positive meter lead on each of the three wires of the sensor connector (red, black, & green). If you get continuity from the backing plate to any of them the sensor is bad.

If it passes the first test...
1. With your meter still at the same settings touch the positive meter lead to the green wire and the negative meter lead to the black wire. If you get an "open" it's good.
2. Then take the positive meter lead and touch the black sensor wire while touching the negative meter lead to the green wire. In this case an "open" is bad. A reading somewhere around 300 - 750 Kohms is what you're looking for.

I kinda wondered now we getting somewhere....do like Mr Wright said check and see if ur getting power to the module...the wire jst connectors should be right between ur motor and trans...it will be a 3 wire plug...run the test its on here somewhere....but i just about bet the sensor is bad but u might get lucky and be a short the connector

Thanks Guys! I'm going to call it quits for now. I'll try testing the cam sensor. If it is bad can I still find these? Donna & Derek or ???

Ummm nope thunder heart is not making them no more i know the man that owns thunderheart personally...he stopped making them 1 year ago...he might remake one but idk....but dont worry there is a fix for it...just check it first.....oh and make sure u mark where the location is now so u can put it back on or a new one right back where it came from so the timing doesnt get off

If it's just the Cam sensor that's not a thunderheart part. you can get one anywhere.

Yep ur right...i ordered them back in the day from him and the ignition modules cause i could get them same day cause he is a 1 and half hours from where i live...probably last one i bought from him was 2015... honestly thought he used to make them till like 2 months ago i figured out they where a standard harley with a jst connector on it ...only thing he made up was the ignition modules but he told me he made both...best i remember isnt it like a 78 sensor for a harley?
