Neck bearings

Looking forward to retirement
It seems like every 2000-3000 miles I have to replace a busted lower neck bearing. I have been to 2 different bike shops one was a Bigdog dealer. All said the same thing on a BD Chopper the rake is to far and a busted bearing is just the nature of the beast. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have not seen a bust bearing but have seen some worn pitted. Be sure to preload the bearings correctly.

I'd say thats a bunch BS. My 07 K9 had almost 20k on it and I have had the neck taken apart twice for the normal maintenance to have them checked and greased. Never has there been a problem

Now if you are riding and hitting some bad pot holes or something that might cause it. Hopefully some others will post about this but I've never heard anything like this on the forum before

FREEDOM!!!
If you have new bearings and races seated properly, greased, and preloaded (as mentioned above) they should last a helluva long time!!! Extremely too loose would be very apparent. Probably waaayyyy overtightened is all I can guess from here.

at 10000 miles I replaced but old bearings were fine, at 20000 I greased ones I took out at 10000 in reinstalled I am now at 30000 miles. so I would said like other bull SH-T, need to get shop manual and do as much of your work as you can, hard to find a good mechanic.

How do you replace bearind? Tech info needed
You will need to remove the front end, the neck bearings Seat into the races under your triple trees.
May want to be a little more specific on what tech info you need. Additionally, recommend downloading the service manual for your year and model. They are available on the forum .

Bought bike...no info on previous owner. 08 Mastiff.
Just steers funny, especially when turning at slow speed...when even turning from dead stop. Feels like it tries to pull you thru the turn.
Hope doing neck bearings cures this...if not check out the forks.
Had a 07, it never handled like this.

All the Mastiff's I've ridden, feel heavy in the front end at slow speeds.

Did you check ride height at the rear? Just saying on my chopper with stock shocks one of them failed this is when I noticed bike wouldn’t turn or steer. I now have air ride if you drop the air it puts the tire on the rear fender reminding me to air shocks up

Im around 73500 and never had any issues. I test rode a Bourget Python a few years ago and you could tell those needed replacement. Now, if it makes a difference, I park my bike vertically on two wood blocks in the garage. The front end is always straight.
