I own an old 2006 K9, I ride it alot, 40K+ miles, always maintain my battery. Last time I rode it, I turned the engine off by turning the key instead of pressing the off button. Following week I tried to turn it on, nothing lit up, not the lights or any of the EHC led's. I did check the key switch and also removed the backbone cable and checked for ground loops, nothing there. Before I buy a new EHC is there anyone out there how can check it and see if it is really dead or is there something else I can do to diagnose it.

I never had a problem... and I do it very often.
I do the same, never had a problem..
And if there is a resettable relay there remove it and install a 40amp fuse block, those relays don’t work well and have been known to be wired in wrong. You should also fuse protect your ehc power lead to the battery
That circuit breaker has nothing to do with not starting. It part of the charging system.

First off you should locate an owners manual for your ride. The owners manual specifically states to always shut the motor off utilizing the "Off" button before turning the key off.
Okay, having cleared that up, have you checked your battery voltage since this incident occurred to make sure your charging system didn't die causing the battery to go dead?

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that....lol. I only say that because I've found more than one BD with the battery lead connected to the same side as the VR and the remaining wires connected to the other side. Naturally, all things being connected correctly, it would not have anything to do with the breaker.

Totally agree with the manual, thats where I went first, and thought there should be a fuse but there was not, and the fuse on the charging system would not change anything as it is not in the power circuit of the EHC. My battery is always tendered even though I ride it every week end. I know that turning the key off with motor running was a mistake with those low voltage boards, that was a mistake on my part.
I turn bike off with the button sometimes and other times turn the key, seems to matter little either way. Bike is stock and still have the reset button with no worries.
Follow the real world advice given by the other members and you will be good to go
