Temporary registration of Uk bike to ride home to Sweden ?

Hello anyone in Sweden !
After a while figuring out which way to bring my Uk registerd K9 to Sweden and re register it there I have decided to ride it over via France, Germany, Denmark etc in the Spring.
There are no suitable ferries UK/Sweden anymore.

My question is this, can I apply for temporary Swedish registration and insurance (forsakring) so i can ride it over on a 2 day trip ?
Any recommended insurance company ?
I remember seeing something about this years ago on the internet but I did,nt need it then !

I know about the ursprungkontroll, registration and besiktning part, it,s just the part of getting it from UK to Sweden legally on the road.
Any replies gratefully received.

Not sure about Sweden, but in Finland taking the insurance before the bike is registered is the nasty part. Legally You should take the insurance from customs and it is a pain and costs a shitload...
I would try to reason with current owner and keep the previous owners insurance for the trip and just ride with UK plates for a few days ie. Date the sales when you and the bike are in Sweden....

Hi
One solution is to travel with a Cargo Vessel. Check out the Svenska Orient Linen or some other equivalent company´s site. Even there is not a passenger ferry going between Sweden and UK anymore you can go and travel with your bike in a Ro-Ro cargo Vessel. I know this because I am working on a one. You get nice cabin and good food but there´s no DISCO on board :D

Just waiting for a reply from Svenska Orient Linen which you mentioned earlier.
But no I do,nt have it insured in the uk so I was hoping to temporarily insure it in Sweden then when it is registered there make it a permanent one.
Insuring it in the uk can of course be done but i,m hoping not to do it for such a short term and it would be an expensive way to do it.

If you end up riding, can’t you take a temporary insurance for a week or a month from UK? Hard to think that would cost you an arm and the leg If the bike is registered in UK. I just guess that would be the easiest way to do it. At least in Finland insurance companies do not give an insurance for foreign registered vehicles... if the bike is not registered at all, I would take a trailer...

I have no idea, but I certainly know NONE of us in the USA have any room to bitch about DMV wait times anymore :oldhardlaugh:

Just curious, but how much is insurance and registration (tags) every year for you guys across the pond? I pay $25/month for full coverage on my K9 and my plate/tag is about $60/year.

Good luck brother!!

Hello.
It depends how much bonuses you have in your insurance company and of course some difference between companies. (You get bonuses if you don't have any accident)
In my case I have 76% bonus on mandatory traffic insurance.
Yearly mandatory traffic insurance: app. 586USD (-bonus 76% = 140USD)

Voluntary insurance (covering theft, animal collision, vandalism, fire, towing service) app: 93USD

Country: Finland
Decent weather riding season May-September (depending of course how badass you are and how you stand cold weather) :D

So, there is a quide on https://www.transportstyrelsen.se/e...egistration-with-a-Swedish-insurance-company/

“Step 3 - Take out road traffic insurance for temporary registration with a Swedish insurance company
Take out road traffic insurance for temporary registration with a Swedish insurance company if you are applying for temporary registration in conjunction with verification of origin.
You will receive a traffic insurance certificate from your insurance company. Send it to us together with your application for verification of origin. This is a special certificate which states the insurance company's company code, the name of the policyholder and basic information about the insured vehicle. The certificate is usually valid for 30 or 90 days.”

So, why wouldn’t you call a Swedish insurance company and ask them?

Ok, so there it is, thats a help thanks.
I have tried talking with 2 swedish companies but it depends who you get to talk to, the two young sounding phone droids had no idea what I was asking for, it just got to be hard work when I was not even sure of the facts myself.
It would be like you calling a Uk insurance company and asking about something that was not used so often but not knowing exactly was available, to be fair to uk insurance companies they are usually more willing to help than the Swedish ones I talked with.
If your name is Bjorn and you want to insure your Volvo then brilliant, if you have a foreign registerd bike and want to temporarily insure it and you do,nt speak Swedish then it,s going to be a struggle with people that are,nt that interested in the first place.

In sweden my BMW S1000RR was about 10000kr for a year but my Triumph Rocket 3 is only about 2000kr, which might be something to do with power to weight ratios. You can insure for just a few months but of course thats going to be a lot higher proportionally. Road tax is,nt much for bikes.

I suppose it’s like in Finland, the companies know exactly witch bikes produce claims.. when I insured my Choppa they told me You chopper guys never get into accident... So the insurance is like 200kr per month and I only insure the months I ride.
