Changing the (imo) ugly convex stock primary on many BDMs

Just put on an open primary and be done with it. What your wanting to do is re engineer the bike. That I highly do not recommend! There are several choices and sizes of open primary. In the end i’m Betting it will be cheaper and easier than what your wanting to do! BDL open primary, Primo Revera open primary, Baker open primary, Karata open primary.

A lot of people say get the Karata. Well now there out of business. Guy worked out of his garage type business. Baker is an established company. BDL has been building belt drives for decades! They set the standards building open primary systems for top fuel 1500-2000 hp unlimited drag bikes. These primaries are solid! I also took the tech supports advice when buying my BDL open primary and went with their lockup clutch

There at major benefits to an open primary for one with an putter bearing supposed it is much easier on the baker transmission main shaft, no more worries of oil in the starter and a noticeable diffence in ride smoother shifting and better clutch performance on a dry clutch. I also believe they look so much better and always a wondered why it wasn’t an option from big dog directly
Can you explain the putter bearing please?

Of the ones I’ve seen, the BDL is by far the cleanest, nicest I’ve seen.

The 3-4 inch ones are completely lost on me.

Makes the bike look disproportionate and lopsided IMO.

BDL tech explained it to me quite easily. For every 1” = 150 hp so our motors create 107-145 hp. So a 2” would handle 300hp. We have 1” belts on the rear drive older BD’s run 1.25” rear drives. The 2” BDL is more than enough . I was sold on the 2” belt drive ! I love it!B1C5AFFE-448F-4EAD-B80D-142DDF3A9B5F.png
