How can you tell if a BDM can accept a sissy bar?

The struts are not threaded. If you have the top plug in the strut, which is threaded, there will be an Allen head bolt from underneath the strut which threads into the top plug.

From the pics you posted I don't see the top plug. Also your struts appear too narrow to accept a sissy bar. Call Gary at Ginz Choppers and send him pics. He will tell you what you need.

lots of the struts have holes for mounting sissy bars but that doesn't mean a 24" sissy bar can be mounted without worry. been a long time since i searched this topic but i thought i could remember that a certain height could be accommodated by the stock strucks, assuming you have the holes for it. it also depends if they are for show or to be functional (tying a heavy travel bag on it or even having a passenger lean on it). err on the side of beefing them up if the latter applies.

Ok so it's going to be hard to tell from pictures, I'd have to ask the seller if (capped) holes are present

for the top mount struts, there were 2 different designs for the struts. first, there was the one that just had a big "bump" where the hole was ( this is not the preferred one). the preferred one was, and is, thicker all the full length of the strut (much safer). as far as the holes, there is a straight hole which is the preferred one, and there is a tapered one. the tapered one does it's job, but, there is a tapered sleeve that fits into the hole and this sleeve is split vertically to allow the tapered sissy bar to fit into the hole. BUT, this one has been known to crack the strut if the sleeve is put into the hole with the split facing outward and you tighten the screw into the sissy bar too tight. this was the reason for the redesign to the thicker struts with the straight holes and sissy bar ends. hope this is not too confusing.

My struts did not have the holes so I bought these and mounted them to my bike.
Oh - so you can save money on replacing the struts and just mount the sissybar to the fender like they do on the AIH Slammers.
I'd just have to tell a passenger not to lean back on it.

This pic shows (if you zoom in) the "bump" out, referenced in the post above where the sissy bar mounts into the strut on my 06 K9.

My girlfriend weighs at least 250 and she hasn’t fallen off yet!
