Hi guys I have this intermittent problem every now and then I press the start button it just clicks( have power to everything just wont crank) the clicking comes from the coil then after a while it starts and runs fine, then last night I went to start it and had nothing at all (no lights, speedo completely dead) but my 2 rear tail lights started flashing and the head light flashes on for a split second when I first turn the key then goes off not sure if it is ehc ,coil, ignition or a wire problem this is the 3rd time it has done it this year then it runs fine for months no problem any advice is appreciated
Cheers

As mr Wright stated check your battery, it could also be a loose battery connection or a wire shorting.

yes it only seems to do it when its cold weather
Next time it happens try using a hair dryer and warming up the EHC -- Both mine failed when cold. Don't get carried away and melt anything, take your time -- its a test.

I had one night when I was out with my first K-9 that the bike refused to start after the sun went down and we had dinner.
Already had the replacement WirePlus sitting at home, so I had nothing to loose.

Told my boy to go back into the restaurant and get a pitcher of the hottest water they could give us.
I poured it slowly over the EHC, with my boys standing there in disbelief and half the staff from the restaurant looking on.
Turned the key and she fired right up!

Installed the wiresplus the next nice day!

Thanks for your help. If it is the ehc which is the best replacement

I had a wires plus and was not entirely happy with it, but I don't know if they are still available.
My current K-9 has a RIP2 in it and its been trouble free for the last two years.

Do not know much about the other choices.

Well, the RIP2 is not a drop in replacement -- you replace the one harness as well -- not hard
Big Dog makes a newer EHC replacement that is a simple plug and play.

for rip2 check wildsteedworx.com and check bigdogisback.com for the drop in replacement.

A low battery or a battery with one or two dead cells will definitely cause the issue your having. BD designed in a safety, hassle others would call it...lol, system to prevent the EHC form sending the proper voltage to the solenoid thus preventing the person attempting to start the bike from pushing the electrical system to the point of failure.
If you know for a fact your battery is good and it is pushing at least 310CCAs then the next place to look is the EHC, if it is still stock.
The circuit I am referring to is a failure point in the OEM EHCs.

Thanks Curtis it is the original EHC after further inspection the clicking noise I can here when I push the start button is coming from the rear jug compression release any ideas?

Mine did the same. When it got cold it wouldn't do anything. Warmed it up and no problem. There is new EHC's out there you can purchase. Alot easier to install I am told. I think Curtis sells them?

I had pretty much the same problem on my 08 Ridge. Replaced EHC. Everything else checked out. Good advice that I received here is that more than likely it is NOT the EHC. Replace battery. Also I just found out when I installed the new RIP kit that two big culprits are in the right hand controls. 1. The start switch can get intermittent and 2 the four screws that hold the IC board sometimes short to case. Remove one at a time and see if she starts. If you ID one that is shorting leave it out.
