downshifting problem

Energy One
I took the bike out this morning and it shifted through the gears fine until I started to downshift.I was able to downshift to the next gear only, the shift lever will stay down and in order to go another gear down I would have to lift the lever with my toe to get it to pop back and then I could down shift.

Anybody seen this before,I have about700 miles on the fluid change at 20 ounces.

i had this problem when i had my 05 chopper and it was because there was sand and grit in the shifting housing. took apart and cleaned with wd40. hope this helps!!!!!!!!!

I'll check that in the morning. Thanks,I was going to remove the shift linkage and see if the trans lever returned after downshifting

only 700 miles on the forwards since I pulled apart to extend them, but I will take a dirty forward control over a tranny problem anyday.Hope thats all it is

Grit in Heim joints on shift rod ......

I just replaced mine for this exact reason - had the same symptoms as you - see Nelson and he'll get you a new set. Until then clean and lube them.

Big House buy a can at a HD dealer or stop by the house.
