"Runs like shit' is to rule out compression or chase your tail. Count the fins from head to head gasket, meaning, it looks more like a porosity problem where the burned oil is fin above the head gasket. Unless the photo looks deceiving trying to find the break from head to cylinder fin-to-fin meaning. Leak is running down the fins. Weep is a wet top barrel fin. Porosity is cooked oil, not flow-able and cooks out rather than being wet as a weep. Just saying... looks like(?)

Pictures don’t show it but there is oil leaking down the fins from the gasket, there is also oil all over the right side of the motor. The top metal gasket looks to be warped as well.
I had shop rebuild it during my rebuild and it has never run all that well since, before I jump off the cliff I am going to hold off on tearing into it just yet.

New info changes the whole scenario. I'm not saying it will work on this head, I'm going to state two different [hi-comp] race engines that are inline-4's, each having their own head gasket material, if not the same material. Shakedown runs showed head gasket leaks. The solution was to break the nut loose, retighten to spec... no more leak from either engine family. You've got nothing to lose but a top cover popped off and this side of chasing your tail shows their rebubild numbers.

Yea, didn’t wanna get off topic and be put on a time out like you know who, :oldeek: :oldlaugh: but Paul was ok with it so we are “off”(topic) haha, and running! You might not have a garage right now, but at least you still have your Dog to put in one when you do get another one! :old2:
