Primary Case Cover Drain Plug

Is the drain plug in the primary case supposed to use a star or hex? I am thinking the previous owner stripped out the old plug and replaced it. This one does not want to tighten very tight so I stopped. It also had some kind of sealer around it when I took it out.

I thought it was strange that it had a star plug when everything else is hex. I put some Liquid Teflon on the threads so I hope it doesn't leak.

One of the old ones.
The manual says 4 ft lbs torque. If you don't have both inch pounds and ft pounds torque wrenches, you should buy or borrow some. And check with Broadband to download manuals so you can followstep by step directions. It is important to follow procedures with these bikes. That includes torque values.
Until you have solid direction from manuals,it is good to keep asking Q's. But you really ned to get the manual downloaded so you can learn what general procedures to follow.

I guess thats the problem. I downloaded the 02 service manual and there is no mention of the torque for the drain plug. So I went to youtube and watched MarkyMarcs video and he said 120inch pounds. So I was trying to go by that. There is really limited info for the older Dogs. So I will download the 07 service manual and read through it.

Also I thought that torque of 120inch pounds seemed pretty high so I was pretty cautious when turning it and stopped when it never showed signs of tightening. Clearly the previous owner over tightened it.

BTW I do appreciate all of the help answering my questions. It would be a lot tougher without this place so Thank You all.
