Starting a post to recruit some folks wanting to/willing to ride from the SW to Wichita for the 2018 Gathering. Glad to step up and make it happen. Chime in if your are interested.
Alright, Ryan. Will keep you in the loop. We will be rolling into Kansas through one of the National Grasslands from CO or OK. Maybe you could meet us in Liberal and ride in with us. (this will be a group coming from CA, AZ, NM, COI live in Hutchinson and I am game
If you have not ridden east from the sw desert and are thinking “who want’s to ride to Kansas?” All I can say is,”you haven’t done with me and Celeste”. I have ridden that diagonal from the Great Lakes to various western destinations many times and then done the reverse a different way yet: probably ten or eleven different combos. If no one chimes in to rearrange priorities, road stops will include:Time to make a commitment. C'mon CA, NV, UT, CO, NM, AZ - what say you?

Sounds like a hell of a trip Rick! You will have fun even if it's just you and Celeste! If you have not ridden east from the sw desert and are thinking “who want’s to ride to Kansas?” All I can say is,”you haven’t done with me and Celeste”. If no one chimes in to rearrange priorities, road stops will include:
Payson on the Mogollon Rim (Tonto National Forest) 4000 ft climb
Showlow (Apache- Sitgreaves National forest) another 5000 ft climb
Zuni Pueblo (‘cause you gotta do it once)
Then on to Grants through the Cibola National Forest (El Malpais National Monument along* the way).
Albuquerque Old Town ( you prolly don’t know there are 300 year old structures this far west - and centers of government a hundred years older than statehood)
Ancient Turquoise Trail east of the Sandias to Madrid, Los Cerillos, and Santa Fe
Taos , Angel Fire, and Eagle Nest at the Cimarron Canyon State Park
Now we pick one of the ways across Kansa: via Rita Blanca National Grassland, Comanche National Grassland, or John Martin Reservoir State Park (actually any one of those gets us to the KS state line.
Witchita via Liberal, Dodge City or Garden City based on the previous choice,
Bring your sun screen if you wear it.
Bring a tent just in case.
Bring a good attitude and a wide open mind.
You will have a blast.

C'mon out!Damn Rick, you make it sound so good, I'm tempted to ride from Kansas to Phoenix just to ride back again!! Those are all great rides.
You had me interested til "Bring a tent just in case" -- I don't camp except by using my American Express(Hilton, Days Inn etc) -- Never leave home without it! Plus would take me too long to get there to start. If you have not ridden east from the sw desert and are thinking “who want’s to ride to Kansas?” All I can say is,”you haven’t done with me and Celeste”. Only 40 miles of Interstate on the entire route. No kidding, I am drooling just thinking about it.
Too bad its 1100 mile to get there. Just don't have the time for that one. I'd be interested in seeing your route plan if you don't mind... Put in my to do folder.Only 40 miles of Interstate on the entire route.
