Possibly not a Big Dog

Hey Ya'll,
I received a bike in my shop that needs a ton of work. My technician has looked at it and said it is NOT a Big Dog and is a home built custom. So, the beginning of the VIN number starts SNPR01xxxxxxxxxx. If anyone familiar with the World Manufacturing Identifiers could tell me if this would be a Big Dog VIN? Nice S&S setup but no compression releases, Harley SE ignition controller so I am leaning towards..Not A Big Dog. Thank you for you time and Best Regards. Yes, we work on Big Dogs, Swift, Titan, and American Iron horse still.

You could attempt to get a quote from Geico using the VIN online and see what it pops up as. I know that I added my Big Dog to my policy using only the VIN and it popped up.

That is not a big dog vin.. Eric and I were fortunate enough to talk with some of the guys from big dog last year and got the run down on the vins and all that..

How were the post-Dog BDMPP rollers serialized? I saw a few but never thought to look at the VIN.

Well after some investigatin' we kinda put 2+2 together. Seems it's an unknown manufactured frame. Since I came from the Harley world I looked up the motor ID. Stamped left side, below the rear cylinder so not and S&S engine at all but straight Harley Evo off a 1991 FXSTS (BLLM). It has upgraded S&S oil pump and Super E. Customer thought it may be a big S&S motor but I said if it was you are missing compression releases which would lead to one of the issues, tough sounding starter. So my "nice S&S set-up" is..well..not so nice in hind site. Still I like bikes like this, in this condition...good bones and all. I knew the inner primary was a Harley unit but I was only able to bring it in and not get the details until I had the time to look. I was really hoping the frame was Big Dog so I could at least tell my customer that. Again, we can get it going again if my customer wants to put forth the gold dabloons. I feel whoever did work on this bike before did the customer and us no favors. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Those cylinder heads should have been a dead giveaway that is not an S&S. Just stock Harley heads there for sure.

Obviously the buyer got taken for a ride if he thought this was an S&S engine or even a bigdog for that matter. Wonder what the title says? Single Downtube is a good giveaway it ain't a big dog.

Yeah, I was a one man show that day and just brought it in. I like this kind of work but it may be costly. I'm working the estimate right now. All I saw was a lot of work and a shiny S&S teardrop. Apparently the S&S logo starts that "Dream Weaver" theme song in my head. Had to get back into the flow and then next day when I had back up I took a more through look at why things were not adding up. I personally am not familiar with Big Dog frame construction so I didn't pick up on the difference. My technician certainly is, he was 15 feet away and told me it was something other then. Thanks to everyone for the help.

Late to the show, but I concur with The3. That's the EVO engine family design and the trivia is from 1984 to 1999. When you look up the word, 'bulletproof' this engine sits next to the definition. Simple in design, interchangeability in the whazoo category. Trans is also hd. One pipe looks rusty so this might be a long sitter. Before I touch a tool to that puppy, I'd know a carb clean going in, then check compression and go from there. I soaked an E carb in vinegar and that aluminum they used made it look new out of the box. Especially looking down at the body submerged in the vinny. You wish you had that look/finish. Rubber swells in vinny so no dipping float needles with rubber tips.
